(Sexual Violence Warning)
They were so happy.
Nothing could push them down.
Nothing could compare to them.
Nothing could separate them.
Dave looked up from his newspaper and smiled. His beautiful wife, Jill, stood there eyeing him with beautiful blue eyes. The quiet sound of her humming a tune trickled from her lips as she moved around the room like an angel. Dave had always thought someone such as himself didn't deserve her. Returning his attention to the newspaper he took a sip from his coffee.
It was an astounding day outside. The sun shone bright and the astounding sights of spring were everywhere. It was a great day to spend with your family.
As he finished his coffee and newspaper Dave looked over to his wife’s stomach. They were expecting a child soon. It had taken a while to decide but they finally went through with it and in only a few months the couple would have a baby girl. She caught him looking and grinned, showing bright white teeth.
“I think we made the right choice.” She spoke with an angelic voice.
“I believe we did too.” Now Dave smiled and they began talking for a few minutes. Soon each directed themselves to individual tasks, though.
A few hours later it was a little after noon and Dave was hungry. He decided to enjoy the day, kissed his wife goodbye and headed out the door. The trip didn't take long and he was soon downtown. He stopped by a small diner and ordered some lunch.
On the way back he was walking by a store when something caught his eye. A large teddy bear, probably as big as a pillow, sat stationed behind a window. Dave checked his wallet and after deciding he had enough, headed into the store. He asked one of the workers about the teddy bear and was quickly going through the process of buying it.
Eventually he made it back to his street with a full stomach and teddy bear in tow. It would be a great surprise. In a few minutes he was at his door and placed his hand on the handle. Odd, it sounded like something was going on inside. Dave swung open the door and heard something like a knocking coming from upstairs.
He headed towards his room where the noise was coming from and peered in. He gasped and dropped the bear. One man was shoving jewelry and all sorts of expensive things in a bag. Another man was holding his naked wife to the bed, raping her. Jill’s beautiful blue eyes looked over to Dave with sadness and pain. They looked cloudy and didn't match the rest of her body. Anger running through his veins Dave sprang forward and shoved the man off of his wife before knocking him into the ground. Suddenly he heard a bang. Jill screamed and he attempted to turn to face her but found himself falling instead. The bullet had gone right into his back. The man he had tackled was now getting up and kicked him in the ribs before looking to his partner who held a gun.
Dave whispered out a feeble curse before slowly rotating his head to his wife. He wished he could say he was sorry. He wished he could say something to her. She only looked at him with understanding that he was not worthy of.
Dave had always known someone such as himself didn't deserve her.
Another loud bang was heard in the room and Jill’s eyes widened. It seemed like time was slowing down as her facial expression changed and blood shot out from the side of her head, a gun pointed in the same direction. Her body followed suit and fell limply onto the bed as Dave stared. He wanted to scream, but couldn't and only felt a mixture of anger and sadness instead. He saw the men leaving with their bag full and their guns put away. As Dave’s vision started to fade he watched them depart. He followed them to the door frame where the stuffed bear lay, alone. It only took another few moments for Dave’s vision to go to black for one, final time as a tear traveled down his face.
They were so happy.
But something pushed them down.
Something outdid them.
Something separated them.
