For the purposes of the RPG, Player Characters who are members of the UNSC's Ground Forces are all organised under PC-commanded Companies.
Player characters will be in command of both these Companies - both existing ones and characters yet to be created or promoted. We hope that people will apply for these positions, as the aim is to give everybody a player to interact with at every relevant level. Rivalries between, squads and platoons - or even companies - will now be in the hands of players, and the reputations of these units can rise and fall based on your collective actions, rather than simply the whims of whoever happens to be NPCing the UNSC forces.
To make this possible, we made some important changes to the ground forces organisation system (the Naval system is fine as it is). In the new PC-led companies, every squad will now only be detailed down to the level of Fire Team Leaders. Each player - with a specific exception (see 'Privates' bellow - will now be in command of a fireteam, at minimum. You can post to apply for these positions at any time in your characters career. Reasonable promotions will be offered to make this possible; so that players can move their existing characters up to fill the spaces available. In particular, Corporals may be promoted to Sergeants, and Privates to Corporals, to allow them to command squads and fire-teams, respectively.
Privates
Those who do not wish to be put in a command position, and specifically wish to play as a Private, will be assigned to the designated 'training squad' for each branch of service, commanded by a player-character Sergeant. New players will be able to either apply as a Corporal and command a fireteam - which we will assume is the 'default position' - or apply as a Private and join the 'training squad' for their branch, for those who find the prospect of having to command a fire-team of NPCs too daunting.
The Training Squads are:
Marines:
3rd Squad, 1st Infantry Platoon, 2nd Company, 2nd Battalion, 82nd Mobile Infantry Division
ODSTs:
1st Squad, 3rd Drop Platoon, 73rd Company, 109th Battalion, 1st Marine Expeditionary Unit [SOC]/ODST
Choosing your Squad/Platoon/Company
The first thing to do is to choose the correct Company based on your area of Service:
Marines:
2nd Company, 2nd Battalion, 82nd Mobile Infantry Brigade
Orbital Drop Shock Troopers
73rd Company, 109th Battalion, 1st Marine Expeditionary Unit[SOC]/ODST
Army Troopers
9th Company, 9th Battalion, 9th Armoured Regiment
Choosing a Squad/Platoon
While there are no rules expressedly ordering it, it is advised that you choose a Platoon and Squad that already has players within it rather than isolating yourself from other players (as this is not the purpose of this reorganisation) – simply choose a unit that you wish to lead and apply for it in a reply to this topic – if you are applying as a Private, you are restricted to the Training Squads mentioned above.
The standard format for this is as follows:
Snipers
All four Companies have spaces for sniper teams, rather than being attached to single units, sniper teams are attached to companies and utilised at the discretion of the Company CO – Sniper teams are comprised of a PC Corporal (The Sniper) and an NPC Spotter (of lower rank) and should be applied for as such.
Army/Marine Flyers
Both the UNSC Army and the UNSC Marine Corps have an Air branch to their forces, responsible for the operation of the various atmospheric aircraft utilised by the UNSC. Player Characters may take command of these Aircraft from individual craft to entire Squadrons, usually these are Pelicans (UNSC Marine Corps Companies ONLY on this site), but other VTOL units in operation by both branches are acceptable for application:
For the benefit of all players, the organisation of ground forces are as follows:
Element (2 aircraft)
Flight (2 Elements, 4 Aircraft) :: Note A UNSCMC Air Cavalry Flight is the standard number of Pelicans attached to an UNSCMC Platoon
Squadron (3 Flights, 12 Aircraft) :: Note A UNSCMC Pelican Squadron is the standard tactical formation for UNSCMC Pelican Aircraft, it is the total number of Pelicans attached to a Company.
Wing (3 Squadrons, 36 Aircraft) :: Note UNSCMC Wings are rarely comprised of a single type of Aircraft, due to the wide spread nature of UNSCMC Forces, Wings tend to be multi-craft to permit operational flexibility.
It should also be noted that the organisation of aircraft is not limited to the Marines and Army: naval air squadrons (Longswords and so on) also function in this manner. It is the standard military organisational structure for aircraft.
Special Forces
There is no PC structure for UNSC Special Forces characters and ONI agents, instead they are treated as several individual 'teams' of Special Forces personnel and assigned to Company Commands as well as individual missions on a day-to-day basis.

As part of the introduction of the new system, to spread the players out, we will be permitting retroactive transfers into different branches of service, provided that the character profile is changed accordingly. Marine characters, for example, may transfer to the Army, as well as attaining a reasonable promotion (one step up, in essence) to fill a position. It should be made clear that this is not an in-character transfer, but a 'free' alteration of your character's background so that they joined the other branch instead. This is a one-time offer, so think of it wisely. In part, this has come about since I'm fairly sure that some Marine players might be jealous of the Army's toys, but should also serve to spread players about more evenly. It should be noted that you can transfer in any direction, and even change specialisation this way: becoming an Army tanker sergeant, from having been a Marine infantry corporal, for example.
Within services, you are permitted to seek retroactive promotion prior to the full and actual start of Mission 3 and it is acceptable to change role within ones Branch (Marine's may retroactively transfer to Scorpion Tanks or to Marine Air Arm or Sniper Teams)

We are still in need of more Platoon-Level Commanders as well as Squad Leaders.
We are looking for a responsible Player to lead the ODST training squad.
