Corporal Jake Furrow ODST 105TH Sniper Tarsus System, Planet Carson |
Furrow remained silent as the action below ensued. The pelicans floated just out of reach and fired their rockets down into the side buildings as the Elite and ODSTs moved some sort of explosive. Furrow flicked off the safety on his sniper and sighted his first target. In a flux of movements, five armor piercing, high explosive .50 caliber rounds slammed into the helmets and skulls of Covenant Elites coming from their positions.
One by one, Furrow dropped those positioned on the roofs of the buildings, and kept others from their vehicles. He placed a marker in the center of the vehicle depot and flicked it red instead of blue, calling in a strike package. Answering his call, two Pelicans rotated and lit up the depot, firing their rockets and spurting their turrets into the immobile vehicles. Several ghosts went up first, followed by three wraiths. The explosions caused chain reactions until the entire depot seemed to go up in flames.
Furrow grinned wickedly and hastily reloaded his rifle. Slamming the next clip in, Jake rose to a knee for a better view. A terrible mistake. On his left, one of the patrol squads returned after hearing the ruckus. The Elite stood awestruck to see the battle, and roared loudly. Furrow looked over out of surprise and caught the eyes of the Alien and his squad.
Furrow clicked the first round into the barrel as the Elite started to turn.
In a flash of movement, Furrow jumped back and brought his rifle to bare. The Elite aimed his rifle and began to spray at the ODST, his rifle homing in on the black figure. Furrow answered with a harsh shot to the Alien’s knee. In a roar of agony, the Elite stomped his foot and lunged forward.
Plasma began to riddle the tree and ground around Furrow, and he took three hits as the Elite jumped for him. His thin armor hissed and his HUD began fuzzy. He fired twice more, hitting the Elite in the right shoulder and in his stomach, but it kept coming. Furrow fell backwards, dropping his body low and away as the Elite activated an energy dagger. Furrow grunted and shoved his rifle forward, stuffing the barrel into the mandibles of the Elite.
“Roar at this...” Furrow muttered, yanking the trigger twice.
The dagger disabled and the Elite flopped down on top of Furrow. He growled, pushed the dead body off himself, and pulled his rifle free from its head. Furrow looked down at the dead Elite and took a deep breath to get his energy back. That was a close one. Carefully, Furrow got back to his feet and looked forward, catching the eyes of the three Elite’s subordinates; a trio of Grunts. Out of reaction, Furrow yanked his M6G free and fired off three quick rounds, dropping the Aliens before they even got a chance to react.
Standing still, he looked around himself, checking for any others that were in his direct vicinity. Yet, it was clear for now so he placed his pistol back into its holster and picked his rifle from the floor. Replacing the empty clip, Furrow turned in time to see the Spire explode. He stepped forward into the light of the area and watched the first few floors of the Spire go up in a bright light.
“Command, this is Recon. Prophet and all High-Value Targets are down. Spire is on its way, and all tangos are also down. We’ll be getting a lift from Sparrowhawk.” Furrow looked down to see his Elite ally coming towards him.
“Copy that Recon, see you two when you get back.”
Furrow lowered his rifle and held it loosely for a few moments before ultimately slinging it over his shoulder.
"Having fun?"
“Much. Let’s get out of here.” Furrow nodded to the Elite and turned to see the Pelicans lowering down and opening their bays for the ODSTs. Furrow turned and jogged for them quickly, moving towards the third and most empty bird.
Once he reached it, he hopped inside and quickly took the nearest seat towards the bay door. pulling his rifle from his back, Furrow sat and strapped in for the ride back. He looked towards the burning spire and smirked. The Covenant were going to be hurting from this one...
