This is a battle between me and Monkey, to see which would win in a fair fight. I've made it a poll so that people can vote on which they believe will win, and so that we can then compare it to the actual result. I will be RPing the Sangheili, and Monkey will be RPing the Spartan II.
Spec Ops assassin Nyla Katolai
Nyla stepped onto the battlefield, blood pumping through his veins as he thought about the battle that was to come. Already, Human forces were flying to the covenant base, with hundreds of tropps and vehicles. He would be in the midst of a battle, the likes of which he had never seen before and would likely never see again. Suddenly, the world shifted around him, and the smell changed to a rank odor. Nyla experienced a feeling of weightlessness, and all he saw was an undefined mass of color. The swirling colors before him slowly coalesced into a landscape, which solidified until Nyla once more felt earth beneath his feet. However, this ground was very different. It was dry and dusty, quite the opposite of the hilly plains covered in swaying grasses he had been standing upon moments before. Still, it was what was on the ground that amazed him. Instead of the short, leafy trees that had dominated the landscape two minutes prior, Nyla found himself surounded by an abandoned arena of an architectural style he found unfarmiliar. Instead of the sweaping, elegant curves of covenant technology, or the rugged, blockieness of human ships and buildings, the coliseum was seamingly constructed out of a single piece of unidentifieable material. Nyla looked for an exit, but there was none. It looked like he wouldn't be getting out of this place anytime soon. Unhooking a plasma rifle from his belt, he fired a short burst at the wall, and was amazed as he watched the shots simply dissapate with no effect on the material. It looked like he wouldn't be cutting his way out either!
Having sufficiently examined his surrondings, Nyla activated his camouflage, sword hilt in one hand, plasma rifle in the other. As he had no way of leaving, it seemed prudent to wait and see why he had been brought to this strange place.
"So much for a glorious battle!" muttered Nyla.

(OOC: I would just like to disclaim that this is not one sided... At all... ) Spartan 148 Joe Callsign: Wolfeye Joe examined where he was, a seemingly barren wasteland. Moments earlier he was in a HEV pod enroute to a planet to perform a secret op. Suddenly the pod's interior vanished and he found himself standing on sand. After the daze faded he realized that there were walls around him, and the structure seemed similar to what he saw in an old book. It was a colliseum, something the Romans had used to have warriors fight to the death in. At the thought, Joe grabbed his assault rifle and scanned the area, being sure to check his motion tracker for any movement. "So if I'm a gladiator, where's my enemy?", Joe thought to himself while checking his gear in quick glances. The operation was a stealth one, but he was outfitted plenty. Four grenades, an assault rifle, two SMGs, two pounds of C7, and a machete he learned to carry since that close encounter with that elite. After the inspection Joe went back to watching out for any enemies that would be in here with him.

(OOC: Looks like I don't instill that much confidence! ) Suddenly, a shape appeared on the opposite side of the arena. It was a demon! Nyla almost gasped as the armored being situated itself. Glancing at it's armament, he realize that this would be a tough battle, but a glorious one nonetheless. He was almost glad at the chance to engage such an infamous enemy of his people! Removing both plasma rifles from his belt, Nyla slowly positioned himself behind a jutting rock near where he had appeared, across from the SPARTAN. Evidently, the colisium had been prepared for this battle, as the cover was layed out in a way so as to encourage both long ranged and melee fighting. Nyla took a plasma grenade from his belt, setting it to detonate in three seconds, before hurling it across the arena, making sure it was just barely in the human's peripheral vision as it flew. Sprinting in the opposite direction of the distraction, he opened fire, the sound of his twin rifles masked by the detonation of the grenade in the confined space of the arena.

Joe saw a bright blue flash to his right, he didn't bother looking since he was sure it was plasma based weaponry. He quickly rolled to the left as the light intensified and exploded and climbed to his feet when the plasma bolts began to fire on him. Joe barely managed to get behind a natural looking rock formation that acted like barrier for the plasma. Joe then took a grenade from his belt and pulled the pin before popping up from cover and throwing the grenade at the elite who was firing at him. He then quickly ducked down again so as not to be fired on.
"Why is it elites always fight me one on one?", Joe thought aloud.

Nyla's barrage of plasma had not done any damage, but at least he had caught the spartan unprepared!
Or not, though Nyla, sarcastically, as he noticed a small object fly out from the spartan's cover. As the grenade was uncooked, it still had several seconds before it detonated, and Nyla took advantage of this, scooping up the primitive, if deadly device before hurling it back into the vacinity of the human. It detonated short of the mark, however, and Nyla quickly vaulted himself over a nearby rock to protect himself against the deadly shards of metal that were careening in his direction. Pulling out his sword hilt, Nyla called out from his rock,
"I know you carry a blade, Demon!" he spat the last word as if it were poison, before continuing, "Although you are probably not worthy of it! I propose an honorable contest of skill with a blade, a duel to the death with our projectile weapons set aside. What say you?"
An honorable contest, yes though Nyla, Although the concept of honor is certainly above you!

Joe heard the elite through his translator, it was asking for a honorable fight with swords.
"These guys are way to hung up by honor, but if you insist.", Joe said as he revealed himself from cover and laid his weapon down.
He slowly removed his C7 explosives and his two remaining grenades. He placed them with his weapon and looked at the creature before drawing his machete and facing his body at the creature. He took his stance with one hand on the blade in a reverse hold. The other hand was underneath blade and would be used to grapple if the oppurtunity would arise. Both feet were planted apart to ensure Joe wouldn't lose his balance.
"I am spartan 148, callsign wolfeye. Pleased to meet you.", Joe said jokingly.

Nyla was mildly surprised when the human stepped out of cover, dropping its projectile weapons and unsheathing a blade. He toyed with the idea of opening fire, but his sense of honor won over, and he too stepped out, dropping his weapon belt, and activating his energy sword. Nyla raised the blade in a salute, before cautiously stepping forwards, blade out before him in a comfortable guard stance. Nyla suddenly exploded into motion, lunging high before feinting low in one continuous motion.

Predictable elite brovada, lunge head first. Joe planned for the elite to due just that, and side stepped the elite in a two step motion. He also dropped a gift for the elite where he stood. Joe never intended to fight fair, but he did intend to fight smart since his last encounter with an elite. So he kept a grenade on him and primed it before he side stepped and began back pedal while grabbing one of his SMGs and firing at the elite.
"As if I'd risk another near death for a thrill. You got a one on one, there's your honor.", Joe roared as he continued to fire at the elite and wait for the grenade to explode.

Having anticipated the SPARTAN's trick from the beginning, Nyla simply continued the lunge, rolling forwards in a fluid conservation of his momentum, picking up the demon's discarded rifle along with its grenades, before diving back into cover, the maneuver saving him from both the SPARTAN's innacurate hail of fire, and the grenade, which detonated harmlessly far away. Activating one of the two grenade he had grabbed, Nyla waited several seconds, before hurling both over the stone he took cover behind, allowing them to detonate simultaneously in the air, razor shrapnel raining down upon the human's position. Next, Nyla activated his camouflage, laughing as the device also disrupted the SPARTAN's moton tracker. Priming the assaout rifle, he rolled again, then again, coming up over a dozen feet from his earlier position.
"Foolish human!" he called out, "I am not one to fall for such a simple trick as that!"

Joe was surprised at the Elite's movements and tactics. The elite managed to leave him without his grenades or his weapon. But he could charge foward too just as much. He dashed after the elite barely missing his own grenade and ducking under the thrown grenades he discarded. Joe then lunged at the Elite as it activated it's camo trying to spear tackle it to the ground.
"Funny how you fight an opponent with guns when all he has is a knife!", Joe shouted as he dived at the still partially visible elite.

Noticing the diving spartan, Nyla ducked into the tackle, punching the spartan in the gut as it came careening at him. Nyla sprang upward, the full force of his digitigrade legs allowing him to leap above the flying super soldier. Landing on his feet, Nyla immediately opened fire at the creature with its own assault rifle.

(Time out, how the hell is that elite jumping over a spartan and managing to aim down at all with that body mass? Secondly, you still have yet to tell me how the elite in question knows how to use human weaponry.)

(The first is obvious, it's an elite, they can clear eight feet easy, and as for the second one, I already explained this to you. He's spec ops, and many of the rules of heresy do not apply to him. Having observed hundreds of humans up close operation their weapons, it would become quite obvious how to operate one. There isn't really much to it, in the same way that it would not be difficult for a you to pick up one of my plamsa rifles and use it)

(Aren't we still early on in the war? Like we haven't been fighting that long?)

(It's still a few years in, and a spec ops elite would have seen a lot of action in that amount of time.)

Ermmhrmmgrrrargkwhat.
The Elite can certainly make that jump, but as for using the Assault Rifle...
1) You are probably not very comfortable at using it, even if you could 2) You probably don't want to use it, as it is still deeply ingrained in any Sangheili not to commit anything that could be construed as heresy 3) Do you really need to use the assault rifle, mid-air? Sure, baddass, but frankly I don't see it as being effective or necessary
