Methane planet mission discussion

Formally called Shitty Air but I'm sure we can come up with a better name for it if we want to go through with this. So;

Back at the end of June 2020 I made a little short description for a mission idea I had where it would be two sides (discussed lower) doing a big ol battle cause thats always fun. But the kicker is that the battle is taking place on a planet with a Methane rich atmosphere. This means thats for once the Unggoy can leap and run and show the other races up as they can ditch their heavy backpacks while everyone else has to lug around air supplys like the lame oxygen breathers they are. Maybe Lekgolo could too? And Huragok? Will need to check.

But anyway thats the super basic idea so here are things to discuss to make the mission more fun.

Setting?
The planet and its atmosphere is super basic so can easily be made bigger. Is it all rocks and cliffs? A bunch of plant life that is massive? Huge man eating plants even? What about the other methane breathing life? Could have giant bugs or otherwise. Free to throw ideas around about this.

* Also important with the setting is to figure out/decide on how volatile the atmosphere is. As methane is flammable maybe it would severely limit the weapons that could be used. Plasma and bullet may be a no go so magnetic, melee, and needle would have to be the main weapons.

Time?
This during the war? Post War? Maybe far in the future? Lots of options which will influence the sides taking part.

Sides?
Related to time but is this Humans v Covies? Some covie v covie civil war action? Some post war uhhh...alliance? As in Jelly and their allies and Humans against the riff raff. Or heck could even throw in the Prometheans. I would suggest against adding them but if people want we for sure could.

Why?
What makes this planet worth potentially dying over? Bunch of Forerunner toys? Some fancy crashed ships? Some old San 'Shyuum records? A ONI base like old times? Feel free to suggest new ideas if you got good ones.

Great ideas here Faclan. I'm going to throw in my opinion on a few , but I'm very excited for this!

First, aggressive methane breathing life. I would say yes to this as it adds a fun a variable. Giant bugs or something like the monsters in the Mist by Stephen King could be cool.

As to whether or not the methane atmosphere would be flammable , it seems to me like we have the choice. I looked it up and found that methane is definitely flammable, but there would need to be oxygen in the atmosphere as well in order for it to catch fire. I think it could be a fun challenge to have limited weaponry though.

For setting I personally would like to see it during the Great Schism. Pit the two Covenant factions against each other for control of some important technology or something. And perhaps some unhappy Unggoy will start a revolt and the Unggoy from both sides can join together and take advantage of the already raging battle to great effect.

Also temperature is important. NASA says that Saturn's moon Titan, a moon with an entirely methane atmosphere, constantly drizzles liquid methane, but that's because it's freezing cold. It's always wet and muddy. So that would affect the landscape. The temperature there is -300 Fahrenheit. The boiling point of methane is -259 Fahrenheit so anything above that and it will all be gas but below it and there will be lots of liquid.

If we do end up having an atmosphere with oxygen, the oxygen will be liquid at any temperature less than -297 Fahrenheit, which could be new and interesting.

On the temperature idea I'd have it be warmer just so Unggoy could more easily run around without their eyeballs freezing. But other than that I like the ideas.

And since our atmosphere here is like 75%ish nitrogen and 23%ish oxygen I'm sure there could be some oxygen in the methane atmosphere. Maybe not enough to make like a match kill everyone but enough heat and fire, like a big firefight, means that teams gota be small and carry alternative weapons. Just an idea of course open to change it.

And big bug life yes. Unggoy finally get to hunting rock something big.

In a methane-based environment, it'd be interesting to see some sort of combination of megaflora and megafauna. Like that of Felucia in Star Wars. Huge, fungal or tropical biomes. Gigantic trees, mushrooms and deadly, vicious predators to hunt and stalk us during the short breaks between fighting.

I am interested in all of these ideas. Semi flammable methane atmosphere so limited weapons, nice temperature so Unggoy can run around unhindered by methane tanks and breathe free while everyone else needs oxygen tanks and also hella giant plant and animal life. Nice! I'm trying to think of how my Unggoy heavy file with explosive weapons is going to work their way through this lol
