So I've been addicted to XCOM 2 after Guardian Cat of Yappa's pointed it out on the Discord, and I've been wanting to role-play a Halo scenario about it lately. I'm not sure why, but it just makes sense, so here I am asking if other people would like to join. It's not exactly XCOM 2, in fact it is only slightly related to it. The general idea remains though: Deploying small strike teams, random in mission events, strikes against facilities and high value targets among other things... I feel like it's mixed with the classic Red Dawn, a little bit of Ghost Recon, and a little bit of XCOM 2.
The premise is simple: You're stranded on a planet aboard a liberated civilian atmospheric freighter with no way off, and help isn't coming for a long time -- know one knows you're even alive anymore, everyone has presumed you dead and you'll likely turn to ash on the planet you once fought to destroy/save. It's not quite post war, but the Covenant and Humanity have joined sides on this one. Somehow, someway, aliens even more powerful than the Covenant appeared and slaughtered everything before loosing their own ship. They're now rounding up the survivors and executing them, looking for intelligence on how to get home.
They are machine, but they're also biological. They will consume your brain, and leave a husk of your former self rotting on the ground.
Feed. Kill. Expand.
The resistance knows they're trying to find a way off the planet, but the Covenant destroyed the majority of the FTL capable ships on the surface so the civilians couldn't escape. The survivors formed an uneasy alliance, but they know they can't let this infestation leave. It is your objective -- at all costs -- to destroy them and their means of escape. The new aliens might consume you with a purpose, but individually they are disorganized.
I will play the game master, Rim World story teller I suppose, where I don't take control of any character but will create the random events. I'll be fair, but these new aliens will be deadly, and RANDOM.ORG shall decide your fate. I won't auto-kill anyone, but if you do die, just make up a new character -- it's a great writing exercise.
This might just be a poor iteration of my failed flood mission, but I dunno. Worth a try I guess.
Interested?
AVENGER ATMOSPHERIC TRANSPORT:
The Avenger -- formerly a Titan-class atmospheric troop transport -- is a fairly small shuttle used by the UNSC five decades before the war. On this colony, though, it assumed the role of a small freighter and has been configured to do that particular job. She's 150 meters in length, 75 meters wide and 45 meters deep; it's just as bad as you think. She looks like someone took a chisel to a rectangle and cut out some surfaces, so she's not the most appealing transport out there. However, when the UNSC found her lifeless hull on top of a mountain ridge, they immediately overtook the vessel from the aliens that had previously infected it. After spending half a month repairing, cleaning and securing the Avenger in the mountains, they've come to realize this ship was never meant to be exo-atmospheric.
The crew have also come to realize they're stranded, but that doesn't mean they're out of the fight. In order to survive, you have to fight for it, there is no where you can hide from them.
The Avenger has two external landing docks compatible with the Pelican's mag-lock skids, which then descend into a tight hangar deck.
There are four primary decks.
Hangar: This deck stores the Avenger's two Pelican drop ship transports, but also has a small armory where people can gather ammo and other essentials for a deployment.
Engineering: This deck features the small reactor and fuel stowage tanks that are required to provide enough power for the multi-direction thrusters.
Command: This is the bridge, the entire planet is available on a holographic display. Members of the UNSC/Covenant alliance can decide where to go.
Living: This deck is mostly crew bunks, and a recreational area that the crew can use to relax a little.
Storage: Storage bays are accessed through the living decks floor boards, technically, although it is a ladder you climb down. This deck houses all your storage needs!
They're all pretty tight.
