Hey, Desmond. Welcome to the site. Nice to meet you. I'm Llau, the head admin here. What kind of character are you thinking of making? Covie or human? Are you new to RPing or have you been RPing for a while? If you have any questions for us, let the staff, guardians, or guru's know, and we'll help you out. We have a cbox to. It's located on the top right of your screen. Just click on the cbox tab and chat with us. We're a pretty friendly bunch here. Looking forward to seeing what you create and rping with you! - Llau

Welcome! Enjoy yourself. There is a lot of stuff especially considering this site has been around for over a decade. Fortunately most of the important stuff for getting started is kept in the profile creation and info boards. Its a mix of easy reference from Halo canon mixed with a bit of our own to spice things up (a lot of Covenant info had to be created to RP them viably. The military organization was created based on Ancient Roman military structure as an example).
Im also here for any questions, especially regarding Covenant, or more specifically Elites.

I've been RPing for a little while now, Though Ill be honest and say that most of that experience doesn't come from a forum based system. As for a character I'm not really set in stone on anything yet. I have a few ideas for what id like to play, but Id be more then happy to take one of those ideas to either faction if more players are needed in them.

Hi Mr. Prez, yea I noticed that roman inspiration while I was skimming threw their information. Which made me wonder if that influence spreads into some of the civic bodies as well (Like dose the council function more like the roman senate, or other such bodies of government.) I ask because it might push me towards making an a young Sangheili aristocrat from a not particularly well respected clan. I think there's a bit of potential with that type of character and I'd really like to see how it plays out.

Oooh young Jelly open to influence could be fun.
Hey Desmond I'm Faclan another Covie player and staff - my favorite is the bird lizard the Kig-Yar but if you got other questions I'll happily try to help with those too.

Not neccessarily, but Covenant politics is pretty interesting in and of itself. While its not a perfect definition, I would call it somewhat of a Theocratic Meritocracy in that it is entirely religiously based but at least in terms of Sangheili culture (maybe it bled into other aspects of the Covenant) military service is more or less mandatory and to be considered of any value means you have to be or have been a skilled warrior to some degree.
Also, tying in with the military being tied into Sangheili culture, a nobleman is a swordsman. The "swordsman gene" is literally considered as the gene of nobility and is indicated by the -ai suffix. Being a legit Aristocrat amongst the Sangheili is indeed a tricky matter, although there are plenty of military Sangheili involved in some form of politics (my Zealot Field Master is the designated leader of his Clan and any higher tiered character has to deal with politics on some level).
In general, the Sangheili are basically Samurai Space Lizards. Their code of conduct and honor is very similar to Bushido and will even commit seppuku if dishonored.

Lots of other species high ranked people have to deal with home and military politics! For example my T'vaoan Champion Kael is not only often in talks with the other Covie leaders but has to deal with the fact that soon she will be running her families clan at home. Politics everywhere!

Politics everywhere! Thank you for the examples, both of you. However having taken a look at that whole tier system you lads have for characters. I'm not sure I can really build much of anything out of either example. Seeing as how both examples are multiple tiers above whats currently available for me to make.

Thats ok we were just giving examples. But even low tier Jellies can still deal with politics. Perhaps their Keep life is stressful because they run things a little different and hes under a lot of stress to learn how to lead it early. Or in the Covenant military he has to deal with trying to lean the customs of the other races.

I never thought of the possibility of a culture shock...That actually gives me an interesting idea. You wouldn't happen the known when Karava was settled would you?(Or perhaps Khael' mothaka? Either would work for what I have in mind.)

Unfortunately not desmondm - But I am a big fan of post war RPs if thats the kind of angle you are going for :>. Maybe your Jelly could take a trip to some Human or Kiggy lands and try to just see how they live. We do have a Post War section now.

I'm looking for somewhere the Clan is relatively recently established. Still trying to go for that whole impoverished noble family deal. But anyway Its cool for me to make my own Clan, right?

Yeah thats perfectly alright. You can either make a separate profile for them or in your Jellies main profile have a section about the clans basic history
