Hi UNSC Com/Cabel
I thought while I waited on a reply about the sit regarding PM's, that I would pop a question in here about potential joining options/avenues to pursue with the UNSC. Cabel has been more than kind in giving a crate of information for me to work with for the creation of my character, but in terms of ideas for joining I was thinking of pursuing the route of operating as a lieutenant (hopefully) in the ODST section or under the fleet/ONI.
I realise there are a lot more roles within the UNSC and a diverse range of options, so I wanted to gage what folks thought/if I could get your blessing Cabel to pursue something along those lines?
Cheers folks, and please excuse me if I'm not so familiar with how things work around here. Still trying to suss out the lay of the land!

Thank you for the credit, and we've all been new to one site or another. It helps to have an ear to turn to, and someone to show you the ropes.
I personally don't have an issue with either the ODSTs or ONI, but when it comes to the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers the 120th MEU Unit which is the main Marine Unit in play has an ODST Company attached to it. It's the 153rd ODST Company, and pretty much every ODST on the site is part of it or the like. I don't have an issue with an ODST with the rank of Lieutenant either, but just follow the Tier "Suggestions" when it comes to it. I usually find the Tier "suggestions" to be just that...suggestions in the length and wording of the RP Sample/History. You can add more if you want.
When it comes ONI, you could do that too.
Either way, I'd recommend looking through the various existing Profiles to get an idea.

Hi Cabel, that's fine
Do you mean the tier suggestions as a whole or is there a tier-criteria attached to the 153rd? Also, is there a leader in the 153rd that I can get in touch with?
Thank you again for debriefing me man

Okay, so I double checked the roster for the 153rd and it appears there is possibly a spot open for an LT in Second Platoon but I guess I'd need to run that past Riddl or yourself/whoever is leading the UNSC Cabel? If both folks are okay with it then I'll go ahead and throw up my profile for you guys to flick over.
The reason I haven't put anything up yet is because I'm just trying to get my bearings and make sure I know what to do before I start posting haha

The roster is - unfortunately - extremely outdated. It reflects a time where the website was more active and had more characters engaged in a mission, so most of the slots that are filled would likely be open due to their creator being absent. While I don't support ONI (*cough*) I can encourage a ODST Officer. I'm not sure if Cabel covered the basics of having on officer here, but there are only a few ways to becoming an officer in the first place: 1) Officer Candidate School OCS is a course that only lasts 15 weeks, but you have to have four-years of post-secondary education (either a college or university degree) in order to be eligible for this option. 2) Military Academy Military academies offer students a four-year degree and an officers commission, where their rank will be 'Officer Cadet' throughout their schooling. The main advantages of a military academy is military training on top of regular classes, so potential officers learn more about tactics, troop deployments, leadership and everything else compared to those officers accelerated through the above option (OCS). Upon graduating from an academy, you will have a degree in Science. 3) Battlefield Commission If your character starts off as an enlisted Marine, then is promoted to a non-commissioned officer (NCO is everyone ranked Corporal and above, you gain the status Senior after E-5), your companies commanding officer can recommend you for a battlefield promotion for a commissioned rank such as second lieutenant; these promotions are one of the easier ways to acquire NCO, and these officers are usually called Mustangs in the Marines; these officers usually command a far greater respect from their peers as a Second Lieutenant than one straight out of an academy or OCS. After that, you have to volunteer for the ODSTs. Right now, while the Human - Covenant war is still on, the unit is a volunteer organization only; however, when the war ends, the ODSTs become far more selective and require applicants to have served in another special forces unit. You're still okay... for now. Your Marine would have served as a typical Marine for a little while, maybe a few months as the volunteer request is processed, and then be accepted into ODST training. Hope this helped you even more. - Kill

That was so comprehensive and perfectly laid out Kill I think I might just near fly into a panic.
Okay, so I have put in my character profile into the WIP slot for Cabel to flick through and Llau to give her stamp of approval. In my biography I've described that my character was able to earn a degree or a diploma of some sorts, but now you've raised these three tranches towards becoming a CO I'm now entirely unsure as to whether I need to pursue one of those specific paths through posting/roleplay to then add that into my bio and become an ODST CO, or whether I can just include having pursued one of those tranches automatically if that makes sense?
In any case, if Cabel and you folks feel that I need to go through one of those avenues then I'd be more than happy to proceed on. Not wanting to tread on any toes here haha
Thank you again MrKill

It's not as complicated as it sounds. I'd suggest regardless of what path you go with, what option that you include it in your history and of course pass it by the Staff. As a Guru, I'm only semi-staff in that sense.
If you go the route of OCS, just include that in your character history. You could have it that at some point your character has attended OCS after some time in the field.
If you go with the Military Academies, you can do the same thing.
As for Battlefield Promotion or Brevet Promotion, it would have to be passed by one of the Staff of course before it happened. IT has been known to happen, and I'd imagine this late in the War it's far more common than not.
