Four soldiers in what appeared to be heavy ballistic armour jogged past L754 Tarson as he scanned his environment quietly, the wind blowing past them lightly as the Major sighed. They didn't need this, what the hell did 212 even have to gain by going rogue? What? Damaging the war effort? It would help if he had reports on what she appeared to be doing but then again all he had received had been panicked exaggerations about how the agent seemed immune to damage, about how was she surviving multiple wounds and then inevitable death screams. Fucking rookies the lot of them. Probably just freaking at the sight of an SO turning on them and missing every shot they fire. Well thankfully there was no chance of this happening this time. Not with the Sokai. Not that they needed to be redeployed.
Did she have no respect for the species she was betraying? The second republic was already losing ground and the Sokai were the only ones that seemed to be able to stem that. That and the SOs themselves. Screw calling them SOGs as well, such a stupid concept. Special Operations Group Operatives, just call them Special Operations... Why did leadership have to be so obsessed with their acronyms and uninspired names? Still, he wasn't going to worry about that much longer as he glanced over to his command M13, seeing his L6s organize a perimeter around Bloodfall. Clean slate had been put in effect. Nothing gets in and out, the area gets cleared regardless of remaining personnel. If they didn't make it out... Well, they were warned.
He calmly walked over to the back of the APC, a large explosion sounding off in the distance likely from artillery that was firing to support the front lines. This was a FOB, the Skinwalkers weren't all that far back. But right now his mission was his mission, Secure and contain the rogue SO and eliminate if necessary. Well, that's what it was from the start at least, but the hapless soldiers he sent in apparently couldn't do it, as well as the multitude of defenses and military personal Bloodfall had anyway.
Calculated and calm the L7 moved past his L6s and logged onto the computer, then commenced trying to tap into the FOBs surveillance system, his eyes staring at the screen before it popped up the connection had failed. Wait what the fuck? That's when the entire base went dark, and reports started streaming in from the command communication device he was carrying.
"Visual impaired, request situation update."
"No visual on FOB entrances, update required."
"Base lighting down, visuals impaired, request sitrep."
Where they that reliant on the lighting? It was 4500 hours but still. How did the SO take out the whole base power supply, and by the looks of it even emergency generators were gone.
"All units, apparent power failure within base, please switch optics to appropriate settings and wait for that damn SO to come out. Neutralise on site if it so much as poses a threat to a single unit."
"Confirm."
Okay good. Though that's when the L6 spoke up.
"L7, would it not be wiser to send Sokai in rather than cordon off the area?"
"I'd rather not take the risk." The L7 spoke as he turned back to the computer, trying to remotely hack any server that may still be up. Even standard ones."
"With all due respect commander, I don't see why you would rather wait..."
"Because land six four four. If you hadn't noticed there's a war going on, and I'd rather not lose my men, whilst the Special operations counteraction Initiative is here, any we lose can't be replaced quickly. And what exact threat does it pose to us within Bloodfall?"
"I... I understand your point Commander, apologies."
"It is taking it's damn time though." The wind blew again as another explosion sounded off in the background, the Commander rubbing his face until a scream loudly burst through the radio.
"Contact! Sighting of SO near exit F2, opening fire!" The yell was followed by a hail of ASW-9 and LRER fire could be heard. Followed by another two sets firing from the other side.
"Contact right side of the base! By vehicle bay!"
"Contact by doorway C5, Firing!"
"How is it in three places at once you idiots! Confirm your sightings!" The L7 pushed his comm device to his ear and then all 8 surrounding squads were firing seemingly at nothing but the walls of the base as comms lit up with supposedly confirmed sightings. This provoked the L7 to grab his visual assistance device and lock onto the base. There was nothing but bullets being thrown at it.
"Hold fire! HOLD FIRE! Nothing is there!"
The order fell on death ears, until eventually, one by one, the hails stopped. Each stream of bullets stopping, sounding off in the direction they were assigned, then fell quiet until there was no sound. An eerie quiet passing over as the L7 spoke into the radio again.
"Sitrep, now."
There was no reply, no static, no nothing.
"Sokai units 4, 5, 21, 23, 75, 9, 30 and 17 respond."
Then the comms peice exploded. Garbled speech playing back at a rapid space, all nine channels lightening up before dying down with loud, garbled, and distorted screams. What in the fuck? The L7 stared at his L6s, who were receiving the same thing before he yelled.
"All units in this vicinity defensive positions around the APCs, NOW! I want units on the ASW-9s and 20 RFSS!"
