Well, I know it's the 31 today as I post this, but I wanted to go ahead and make this right now because I have no idea what I will be doing, or if I will be sleeping tonight during New Years Eve. Please read this first for more information, if you haven't already. If not, then you may continue. So! Here we go. The first Drabble contest of the year will be free-form. You decide on the theme and the genre, as long as it's 100 words. Simple as that. Reply here with your Drabble. Have fun! Deadline is January 31 at midnight EST, or February 1st at noon at the latest. I will accept either. After the deadline, the thread will be locked, and they will be judged by the staff.

Encounter in the Dark Theme: Outnumbered Genre: Fantasy
Rhem 'Jumal slammed his shield to the ground with a ruptured quake invoked by the Gods, their divine power pulsed a rebuke to the unholy Unggoy twisted and shaped by their deep evolution and heretical ‘goddess’. The light of the Everlasting Star brought their bulbous-eyed visage to his disgusted sight.
Their pack leader, a wretch garbed in sea-eaten robes and a mask of chitinous origin, chanted in a bubbly gurgling language. His four devotees cackled their evil at the cornered Zealot and despite his righteous fury, knew it to be true. His battles with their kin have cut dishonored wounds.

Masterful deceit Theme: Trickery? Genre: Mystery. C stared at J quietly, analysing them over and over trying to gain some form of insight to what the other was thinking. There was no way J meant any of this, they knew exactly what they were like. They was a manipulator, a user. they clearly had some purpose talking to them, but why? "You know I only want what's best for W. Yes?" The words rang in C's ears a little. J never really talked of W, not unless they were serious. C had picked that up from their interactions. Where they being honest then? Was it true? (I felt that this could be used as an opportunity to for followers of TBYM to gain a look at something that wasn't going to be part of the the story xD Also, 100 words is haaaaard!!)

“Hello? Hello? Does anyone read me? This is Zulu seven-five-niner does anyone copy?”

“Fuck! We’re dead. We’re so dead!”
“Hey! We will get through this Stevie. We WILL GET THROUGH THIS. YOU HEAR ME PRIVATE??”
“ Zulu….niner…. This is…...angel…...copy??”
“OH THANK GOD! This is Zulu seven-five-niner. Enemy forces have overrunned Hector-four-alpha. REQUESTING IMMEDIATE EVAC OVER!”
“Evac…...possible…...zulu….. on”
“Did not copy, please repeat last”
“Juliet-angel out””
“Juliet-angel, Juliet-angel please repeat your last.”
Silence
“Juliet angel, do you copy?”
Explosion

The Nightmare Theme: The inevitability of futility. Genre: Psychological Horror
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
The clicking grew louder with each passing moment. The girl's heartbeat quickened in pace, her breaths becoming rapid and shallow as she huddled, hugging her knees, tears flowing. The lantern's light was all that protected her. But once it flickered and died out, the darkness consumed her. The unseen devoured her, tearing at her flesh, her screams of terror filling the empty void, satisfying the undying hunger. Just like that, she was forgotten.
A spark of light was all that was needed to light the darkness. But nothing can keep the darkness from snuffing it out.

Drabble or Short Story?: Drabble Created by: LaxKnightTheme: Warhammer 40k, Sisters of Battle Genre: Description/War Keeper Helga’s mastercrafted power armor was night blue with fiery orange robes laced with bronze trim. The relic Wings of Grace jetpack sat on her back with the Cloak of St. Renee said to protect the wearer as long as one native stays faithful. In her hand was Vow of The First, an elegant azure power sword. Lastly was the helm The Vigilant, said to see the the purity of any soul. She looked divine, the God-Emperor's will made manifest. She stepped from the altar as the faithful stood in awe, marching to war for this foreign world’s soul. (Hopefully actually using the format stated in the rules gives me some brownie points. Feel free to pm me ?s.)

Drabble or Short Story?: Drabble Created by: SPARTAN-A120 Theme: Regret Genre: Tragedy, Science-Fiction The following drabble is a sneak-peek into what's in store for post-war mayhem. The Link that ShatteredThe crimson liquid flowed freely out of the SPARTAN IV’s hands as he tried to reduce the blood loss with direct pressure on the Insurrectionist’s chest. He ensured that he was not gripping too tightly or he would risk crushing the woman to death. The ONI Operative had tears forming on the rims of his eyes, but it couldn’t be seen because he refused to unpolarize his visor to reveal the true identity of the woman’s killer… assassin. The mission was completed, but at the same time, the SPARTAN had failed.
Enabling his external audio, he spoke, “I’m sorry… Mother…”

Nothing had held them back. A massacre. The few remaining knew they would fail. But would't give up the last Bastion. The final outpost of their former might. Soon the battle would be over, but over the radio channels came a sign of hope, reinforcements would be there the battle might be won yet! Word spread through the ranks of the defenders about a group of Spartans that would be arriving as news spread they were coming to save them, and Morale soared, though the night was not won it was going to be a difficult battle.

Drabble Created by: MrKillTheme: Fiction Genre: Zombies / Demons A misty, thick fog descended on the defenders like steam from a wet blanket over a crackling fire. Eyes, red like a gushing volcano, screaming towards the barking machine guns and flashing probe lights. Agony amidst the confusion, cries for help and the noise of demons. Hard they fought, but achieve victory they did not. Extract the living, sacrifice themselves to the dead. No one questioned, but the burden stayed; a hundred men fell in just five short minutes. Stories were told, but they turned to myth… until the demons appeared again. Only option now… is for us to win.

.:Cooking with Aliens:. Theme: Kitchen-work Genre: Science Fiction
“I didn’t know Humans only had two lungs....” Torakakolog said with a quizzical scowl as he ripped the lungs out of the back of the Human he was preparing for the warband’s dinner. The Rapax cook scratched his chin and shrugged, rattling the stolex beads of his many-times braided beard. He wrapped his long tattooed fingers around his kitchen axe’s haft, the claws scrapping the worn leather. He ripped it free of the magnetic utensil block, and splayed the primate’s ribs further with his free hand. “Now...” he said as removed the entrails “... lets see how many livers they have....”

“Come here sweetie.” The small boy wandered across the rooftop, eyes glued to the midnight sky exploding with vibrant colors. A woman scooped him up into her arms. “Do you know what a resolution is, hon?” she asked. The boy shook his head. “A resolution is a very special promise,” she said. Her words were punctuated by distant explosions. “It’s shaped from your dreams. And no matter the outcome, it says something about you. Make a good one, okay?” The boy nodded. “Do you have a resolution, mommy?” “Yes my dear,” she said, kissing him on the head. “I do.”

Apologies for the lateness of the results, but I was finally able to gather votes from BetaW, Fac, Dark, 120, and myself. January's Writing Contest Winner, and the one with the most votes, goes to: SuperCommando. I'll see about making you a graphical forum signature, if you wish to have one. Let me know. Congratulations, SC! I'm always eager to read what the Yappa's community writes, and everyone did well, but remember - these writing contests are just fun writing exercises for anyone to do. Until next time! - Llau
