.:: Yappa's First Annual Novella/Novel Writing Contest ::.
Hey everyone!
Starting January 1, 2017, every member of Yappa's Halo RPG has a chance to work on a novella or a novel-sized story. In which it'll end on December 31, 2017 at midnight. Plenty of time to work on either. A novella is shorter than a novel, but if you want to challenge yourself with writing a novel-sized story, then go for it. ;D
Minimum and Maximum Word Count Requirements:
Minimum word count for a novella is 17,500 and the maximum is 40,000 words.
The word count for a novel is 40,000 words or more.
Submission Requirements and Rules:
I advice everyone to use a word program and submit once you are finished in the appropriate category I have created for the writing contest. Unfinished work that do not meet the word count criteria of either a novella or a novel, or works that are WIP (meaning, if you are working on them one chapter at a time and posting them on the forums) will not be accepted, and will be moved to the sandbox until they meet the criteria and are completed. Don't worry if you can't complete it in time. If you can't, then you can submit it for the next time we have this contest.
Original and fan fics from any fandom, and any genre will be accepted, but please keep them PG-13 if romance is involved. Sorry, Proboard rules, not mine.
Grammar and spelling must be correct, and in English. It'll be okay if there's a few mistakes, but not too many; otherwise, your submission will be revoked. A lot of you are pretty good writers, but even the best of us make mistakes. So, edit your work (I recommend you edit your story once it is finished before submitting it. Read it out loud is the best way to make sure things are good.)
I trust everyone here, but, please don't copy someone else's hard work and call it your own. I won't tolerate stealing.
On works that are already in progress:
Yes, you can submit stories that you have been working on, as long as they are finished and meet the word count criteria of either a novella or a novel.
How to Submit Finished Work:
Once your novella or novel has been completed, create its own thread in the Novella/Novel Submission board. Use this template for your work at the top of your thread:
Title:
Original work or Fan Fic:
If Fan Fic, state the Fandom:
Word Count: (this will be checked by the staff to make sure what you place here is correct)
Original work or Fan Fic:
If Fan Fic, state the Fandom:
Word Count: (this will be checked by the staff to make sure what you place here is correct)
Winners and Awards:
A winner (or winners, depending on number of submissions) will be announced in January during the Second Annual Novella/Novel Writing Contests. Awards will be explained near the end of the year once the staff figures out what will be given to the winner(s).
