I was wondering if I could choose specifically "combat medic" as a job title. I understand that my character would be a Hospital Corpsman, however I would rather not have him be a surgeon or, say, a dentist. The information I have read seems to imply that the vast majority of the duties of a hospital corpsman revolves around working in such environments, rather than working in the field. So, basically my question is, can my character be a specialized battlefield medic?

Of course your character can be a specialised combat medic. To my own understanding a combat medic as a 'squad' role is no different to say, a rifleman, automatic rifleman or designated marksman. Other than of course the additional speciality training that the person or character has acquired to be proficient in their 'squad job role'. There are HUGE differences between a Corpsman/Hospital Corpsman and say a combat medic as far as I -PERSONALLY- know. A combat medic is someone who simply receives additional 'life saving' and medical training on top of the basic medical training ALL enlisted men receive. Their JOB is to keep the wounded alive for as long as possible until they can be transferred back to the FOB or HQ to be treated by a Hospital Corpsman or Corpsman or even a Surgeon. That's all I really know but I am pretty sure am at least 75% right. Hope that helped you Sentinel. Edit: Also! Where a Corpsman has their own rank structure as you can see here: yappashalorpg.proboards.com/thread/11373/unsc-hospital-corpsA 'combat medic' is simply a Private, Lance Corporal, etc, etc.

All the information we have regarding Hospital Corpsmen are found here: yappashalorpg.proboards.com/thread/11373/unsc-hospital-corpsA (Hospital) Corpsman is basically the same as the Army's medic, except that they work for the Navy. On the site, a Corpsman is usually attached to a unit at the Platoon level. Therefore they are subject to the orders of the Lieutenant whose platoon they are attached to. If you've got questions, you can look up the way the modern US Navy trains and uses Corpsmen. It's not much different than the way we use them, other than the fact that we are in a futuristic setting and therefore have somewhat more advanced medical care available both at and behind the front lines. You can also hit up any of the staffers who will likely be able to answer your questions.

The Marine version of a Medic IS a Corpsman (pronounced core-man but I think you'd already know that).
Also, corpsmen use a different ranking structure, rather than the Marine ranks.
Marines do not have 'combat medics', rather than the corpsman being trained and equipped for combat.
