Going to be a pretty brief as this is literally just an Interest Check for the idea and not really having that much info (from me) But been in a Destiny mood lately, even though I still haven't actually played the game, since the universe is interesting to me and the Eliksni (and most baddies actually) are really cool lookin and interesting. But the last few times a Destiny RP has happened it hasn't lasted that long, often cause people drop out, so if this one takes off probably going to try and keep it small so that should be less of a worry. Anyway onto the DnD part of this, which is probably quite confusing but here me out - and don't worry if people arn't for this idea we can just do a normal RP thread without the math; But the Yappas DnD thread is super popular and has people trying to enter it still so thought this may be fun to try in a Destiny setting too. Its going to be tricky since there's less direct information about classes and spell lists but with Huka's helmet I was able to find a few semi rulebooks about this. Which I will link now. linklink
And I also drafted up some super basic class and overviews just brainstorming for the idea that I'll spoiler here; don't worry if you don't like the idea if you want to do Destiny RP and have it be more simple we can always just do that. For the Guardian sub classes think of them as early prestige classes, so you would likely start as the main class (like a Titan) and then after some time upgrade to a sub class (Like Striker). GUARDIAN CLASSES; Titan (Fighter) - general rough and tumble fighter, good at range or up close but no 'magic' - Defender (Warrior) - specializing in close range support and area denial - Striker (Berserker) - Incredible close range damage and can take a whupping but less ranged moves. - Sunbreaker (Paladin) - A more ranged and AoE damage spec, not as much damage as Striker but is safer doing it.
Hunter (Rogue) - general lightly armored ranged or close ranged sneak class. Good at getting through doors. - Bladedancer (Rogue +(Assassian)) - Their melee burst spec, able to rip apart enemies in stealth attacks. - Gunslinger (Sniper) - Ranged burst, able to (a few times a rest) do incredible damage if they manage to hit. - Nightstalker (Ranger) - A more supportive role with CC and traps to support the teams damage and keep their allies safe.
Warlock (Sorcerer) - general purpose magic user, lots of low level spells to toss out. - Stomcaller (Dragon Shaman or Psionic (Energy Current; www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/energyCurrent.htm )) - sustained close ranged damage over a good area instead of single target - Sunsinger (War Cleric) - Group support, can resurrect but not that often. - VoidWalker (Wizard) - Glass cannon, loads of damage but not many casts.
ALIEN CLASSES; Fallen - Scrapper (Melee focused combatant, some stealth skills for backstabs) - Scout (Equal balance, good spot and search - no specialty) - Sniper (Ranged focused combatant) - Captain (Group support and command, very skilled in melee)
Cabal - Phalanx (Defensive minded close range fighter, most tanky besides Defender shield, but there's is always up) - Legionary (Balanced combatant with good survival checks) - Centurion (Jump pack, more mobile but less tanky Legionary) - Psion (Weak (compared to other cabal classes) but has strong offensive 'magic' and a few control spells.
Hive - Thrall (Close range berserkers with very strong grapple attacks and very high speed but next to zero ranged skill) - Acolyte (Balanced Hive class) - Knight (Group Support and leadership, proficient in many weapons) - Wizard (Magic class with strong defensive magic)
(Dunno if they would work but *shrug*) Vex - Goblin (Balanced fighter, good sense skills) - Hobgoblin (Sniper class, able to 'pause' for a round to be invincible but can't act) - Harpy (Flying quick assault fighter, squishy) - Minotaur (Slow but towering destroyer of worlds, hard to fit through doors)Let me know what you think. If you are interested but would prefer it to be normal RP say so and if you are intersted and want to try it with more DnD rules let me know that too.

I'd be interested in trying the full D&D version with all the rules and math. I know it's way more work, but I like the structured approach more than simply doing freeform writing like a normal RP. Plus I usually DM, so being a player would be a welcome change. I also really like that rulebook in the first link. Very cleverly adapted. It reminds me of what I had imagined Destiny was going to be like pre-launch. I was expecting a lot more open exploration and mystery solving, but what we got was more of a generic first person shooter where "secrets" are just kind of handed to you and so much untapped story potential. Maybe D&D-style Destiny can fix that. Is it okay if I call dibs on an Exo Striker Titan? EDIT: Also, of course I'll keep running Princes of the Apocalypse, so nobody worry about that. I'm not jumping ship anytime soon.

I like the stuff in the first link too but the only problem is that they are missing 3 whole subclasses. Granted they are new and this was probably written before then but it would be a shame to skip them. We could make up the stats and stuff for them but I personally don't know anywhere near enough about DND to help there. I do know a decent amount about the lore though and willing to help with the conversions for those classes if someone else is up for it too. Edit: If we are calling dibs, I call Human Hunter Gunslinger.

Probably the most important question - Fantasy Destiny or Sci-Fi?

Basically, swords or guns, respectively.

It'l be close to the Destiny game, with mostly guns and riflebutts and the occasional Fallen sword or Hunter knife.
At least thats the dream.

Still confused. Destiny has both. It's both scifi and fantasy. Space magic but also aliens and robots and guns. Maybe I just don't understand the question, but I don't get how it can be either or.

Basically, same concept with the setting, weapons and whatnot being medieval instead for the most part. Planets are worlds we shift to that was once of familiar ground for Humanity during the Golden Age. The aliens can jump on worlds too in their own way, but follows similar rules. Example - instead of a rocket launcher, Gjhallahorn is a collection of highly decorated heavy crossbows made from the armor of the fallen Guardians during the Six Fronts of the Twilight Gap with the spirit of the Wolf enchanting their bolts to struck with harsh force. Upon the Alpha's bite, the pack shall break and nip in turn (1d12 + 4d8 in 10ft radius, WIP thought). The Red Death - the blood of murdered Guardians stain this great machete to the point one could almost feel its gory blade hum with wrongly-acquired Light, drinking the life of its victims to heal its wielder. Almost singing of their bloody triumphs for more. However, its dark legend is well-known and despised by those of Order. (2d6 + 1d6 necrotic damage, gain temporary hit points equal to extra damage dealt - Cursed Weapon, Will save DC with each critical or degrade to chaotic evil after saves. Grows stronger with the death of Guardians or beings of Light temporarily.)

Ohhhhhhh, okay. I get it now. "Fantasy" Destiny = medieval-ify everything. "Scifi" Destiny = normal Destiny like the game.
In that case, scifi. Hands down.

I would also personally prefer sci-fi so it can be more like the Destiny people are more familar with. Just with a slightly more pathfindery approach since people also seem game to try rolls and stuff. I may join a more fantasy style DnD Huka if you wana make an I check for it. But it seems like we have 2 for sure and 2 maybes. LaxKnight SuperCommando are you both game for slightly pathfindery DnD Destiny? Huka Spartan 999 are you both fine with that as well? I'd say 2-4 is a good place to start and more people can come in later if they'd like.

Oh yeah, Sci-Fi all the way. If my bros can make a Halo DnD we can definitely make a Destiny one. I'm okay with pathfinder. Not really familiar with most RPG systems so it's all the same to me. xD

Thanks for responding Lax, and it will probably be closer to 5th edition honestly since thats what the semi rulebooks I've found so far for this are in. Pathfinder was just an example of more future focused DnD.

I'd say why not. I personally haven't done Pathfinder before (I do know it's similar enough to D&D), but since some rules and mechanics are going to be changed to accommodate the Destiny setting anyway, it's not like this was ever going to be 100% pure D&D 5e either. A few more slight changes probably won't be that noticeable. You say it'll be mostly 5e, so that works for me.
