This is a revisit of the community vote located here: www.yappashalorpg.com/thread/11150/community-optional-profile-forum-accountsI want your opinion on this. Would you like to make a character account for your more popular characters, or maybe all of your characters? Then vote yes. If you'd like to see the website less cluttered, vote no. Pretty simple. It would be optional as well. "What is a character account, Kill?" Well, a character account is a forum account, like the one you are using now... but re-purposed for your individual characters. I'll use myself as an example. I have four approved characters, two that are 'active'; and I also have a deceased character. Admiral Klix [Inactive] Colonel Killinger [Active] First Lieutenant Killinger [Inactive] First Lieutenant Pain [KIA] Lance Corporal Jones [Active] Since I have five characters, I would then decide if I really wanted to use individual profiles for them. I think, at this time, I probably wouldn't personally. However, if I did, I know what characters I would use. Proceeding with the process, I'd make two new accounts on the forum linked to my 'global ID'. Their usernames would be 'eklix' and 'jkillinger', but I'd edit their display name to show 'ADM. Klix' and 'COL. Killinger'. It's as simple as that as well.

As I use this on my forum, I'm still all for this. Plus, it's optional, so there's that.

Like Kill and Llau said. It's entirely optional. If you want to use these accounts, feel free to do so! If you don't want to use these accounts, feel free not to do so. I honestly don't quite get the strong opposition against this. The only thing a person opting not to use this would see from this, is a little more accounts floating (and posting) around the website.

The question presented by this poll is "would YOU use character accounts", not "do you think character accounts should be a thing on this site". Important distinction.
I don't care if other people do that or not. I won't. So I voted no. Doesn't mean I'm necessarily opposed to the concept.
(Edit: I also voted "no" in the previous poll, but that poll was asking a different question. I've also loosened up since then. Still would rather keep all my stuff on one account personally, but if others want to give it a try, fine.)

I dislike doing this and the idea itself because it makes things unnecessarily cluttered and confusing. I have stories where it led to misunderstandings and arguments on other sites; while it might not turn out the same here, I just think it would be best to avoid the risk entirely. While I won't go crusading against it, I certainly won't feel bad if it's never implemented on Yappa's.

The question, despite bad spelling, is worded the way it's meant to be worded.
I want to gather if you don't mind this ability or if you feel it would be a bad inclusion to the website for what ever reason.

I voted yes since I wouldn't mind other people using it, since it would be optional and all.
I personally couldn't use it due to being on dial-up and the log in/log out process would be too difficult in the long run as such for it to be practical for me.
But I certainly wouldn't mind others getting to enjoy it, or at least try it out and see how it goes.

Voted no because it would just be a whole bunch of profiles that may be confusing to keep track of who belongs to whom.

Voted no because it would just be a whole bunch of profiles that may be confusing to keep track of who belongs to whom. I agree with Faclan and 999. It would create all kinds of confusion and havoc on the site, plus an unneccasary amount of empty profiles should someone go inactive.

Coming from a site where having a different account for each different character you played was a MANDETORY RULE!!! I can honestly say that this makes things a touch difficult.
On the other hand, you can make a website look a lot more active with a few people playing different character on different accounts. Activity after all is one of the main things players look to when gauging if a site will work for them.
It has it's pro's and con's sure. I do however have the ability to use ANY of the Proboard accounts I have under my email for this website, sooo at that point it's pretty well fair game yeah? I'm not voting cause I personally don't care either way and my opinion on this matter sways way too often.

How would we post on everything else/what if you don't have a character already?
Imma join the 'Or Nah'.

Imma join the 'Or Nah'. It's entirely optional, so you could continue to use the single account. Furthermore, the Proboards system has an easy way for members to change their display names on a dime.

In my eyes it would crowd the site and make us look like we have more members then we actually do.

I mean, if you look at our member count at the bottom of the home page, we look like we'd need a hundred mods to handle our 444 members, but we don't because they're bots or inactive. If it does make us look like we have more members and or more active as a site, we might actually get more guests joining the site. And we could always add a mandatory addition to extra accounts with a disclaimer of "this account belongs to BetaWolf and is a representation of his Character Garatus" in the Signature or some such.

And we could always add a mandatory addition to extra accounts with a disclaimer of "this account belongs to BetaWolf and is a representation of his Character Garatus" in the Signature or some such. Yeah...the 444 members is more misleading than if members use multiple accounts for their character if they wanted to, and post with each one. Personally, if I were a guest, I wouldn't care about how many members a site has because that isn't important to me. What's important to me is how active the site is. A site can have that many members, but if it barely has a pulse, then I don't bother joining. If I see people posting in threads or making threads every day or just about every day, then it has a higher chance of me joining and becoming part of the community. On my site, in the custom title, I have who I am in each of my accounts there. I also have the accounts linked in my signature so members can know where else they can get a hold of me - which is useful, especially when you're staff, as well as letting people know that these two accounts belong to me. It may look overwhelming or seem overwhelming, but it's simple. It also works best when it's optional and not mandatory, and when you decide to just make an account for your active characters you post the most with. Like the ones you are planning to use for the long haul, and not ones you're going to either kill off after creating them for a mission, or not really develop them.

Wow everyone is completely split on this. 11 votes to 11. You see, if you vote yes on proposition 343, the United States of Yappas cannot guarantee accurate member numbers, and confusion ratings will be off the charts! If you look at Yappas quarterly member income, we have had a large influx of newbies recently. We want to keep it that way, so here is my mindset : Let's not change anything! Except for main missions. Absolutely add those. That is why the people should vote no on proposition 343. (Paid for by the GoodyIsDope Society.)

Alright, alright. The way I see it is that if people are so worried about misleading user counts and activity ratings for the site there at least needs to be some kind of cleanup. I don't know how long its been since any Admins did an activity check or a mass delete of old unused accounts, but it may just be something that's gotta be done anyway. That'll solve some of the clutter issue and alleviate concerns for misleading numbers.

It's been a while since then, however, and that was six or seven years of accounts accumulating.

It also just wouldn't look good. A bunch of sites do that already and I don't think it works at all. Since we're definitely the most best RP site let's just do what got us to be the RP juggernaut. Which is what we've been doing.

This actually is the only site I'm on that doesn't use the account-per-character thing. I personally prefer that over what we currently have...

Well thats a matter of just experiences Bones because for me its the other way around, none of the other forums I'm on do character profiles like that. And for those of us who have 7 active characters and 2 in the wings I really don't want to have to try and log into all of them in turn to post stuff.

Ok, all right.
We're implementing this into the RP, however under some heavy restrictions, as well as organizational concerns.
Since the vote is 1:1, and the fear of making the website disorganized is high, I'll do my best to organize it better.
It entirely optional, an announcement will be to further explain.
If it doesn't work, we will remove it, and the post counts from those individual profiles will be added to the users main profile.
