What up guys! It's Kart here with a nifty little mission for the UNSC and Covenant and civilians and whoever would logically be in a Human city under attack by the Flood! That's right, folks, this mission is going to be about a Flood outbreak! Those are always fun. Always.
Setting
Bhima
Human Colony World “Bhima”-a colony with a population of 8 million or so, currently under attack by the Covenant. Major manufacturing point for Traxus Industries, producing numerous service vehicles and tools. Population is primarily Hindi, and Hinduism is the primary religion.
The story will take place in the capital city of Newer Delhi, which has been ravaged by the Covenant invasion. The space elevator and accompanying station that once made Bhima a transportation hub have since fallen down and demolished half the city, while kicking up massive clouds of dust to mix with the smoke of a burning city. Worse still, the impact of the elevator stirred something deep inside the Ziggurat, the Forerunner structure at the heart of New Delhi.
The Ziggurat
The first human explorers who arrived on Bhima sought out the Forerunner structure that would later be called the Ziggurat (although at the time, it was primarily called “that big f***ing energy signature). The Ziggurat is an ancient construct that displayed blocky, stepped architecture—unusual for the Forerunners, who seemed to prefer smooth, sloping geometric designs. Theories suggested the Ziggurat was one of the oldest Forerunner structures, and archeologists flooded Bhima. Eventually, it was discovered that the Ziggurat was an ancient Forerunner mining operation.
Newer Delhi
The archeological site set up near the Ziggurat would later grow into a thriving research outpost. With researchers eventually came support staff, military detachments, and tourists, turning the little outpost into a small town. However, it was the arrival of mining prospectors that put Bhima on the star charts. Massive amounts of pre-processed (likely by the Foreunners) vanadium steel were discovered in vast underground vaults, alongside even more abundant natural iron ore.
Bhima, once a minor research world boomed into an industrial powerhouse, fueled by the mining prowess of the Forerunners. Researchers originally protested the exploitation of the planet, but the consensus was not to waste all the steel the Forerunners had so thoughtfully provided and their qualms were quashed. Droves of immigrants from all origins swarmed to Bhima, but the largest population demographic were from India on Earth, and the city came to be named Newer Delhi. Newer Delhi grew to be a manufacturing giant, even going so far as to necessitate a space elevator to draw up exports. There were a few worries about the future of the city as the steel would eventually run out, and Bhima would have to start mining and refining ore themselves—but that turned out to be the least of their worries.
Covenant Invasion
When the Covenant came for Bhima, the fight was short but intense. The initial invasion fleet was rebuffed by the local detachment of UNSC vessels, but Bhima proved to be too good of a target. Its importance strategically as a major resource provider, its presence as a transportation hub, and the religious significance of the Ziggurat proved to be too much for the Covenant, who reattacked with three times the original force and wiped out the UNSC fleet.
Newer Delhi fell when the space elevator fell. Besides the destruction of a swathe of the city, the Covenant did not bother with ground tactics, choosing to glass the majority of Newer Delhi. The only area spared was the Ziggurat and the ten-mile radius around it. The remnants of the UNSC are holding out in this area, guarding civilians hiding out in the vanadium steel vaults, aware that it is only a manner of time before they are overrun.
By the Covenant, or something worse...
The Current Situation
The UNSC has set up their last stand at the Ziggurat, which the Covenant is unwilling to bombard. Their primary defensive goal is to hold the entrances to the vaults, where the surviving civilian population is currently holed up. The Covenant is deploying infantry to claim the Ziggurat, which is sending out ominous tremors.
UNSC:
400+ military personnel (Marines and Army)
40+ light vehicles (Mongooses and Warthogs)
5 Scorpion tanks
8 aircraft (Pelicans only—Falcons' rotary systems clogged after a week of combat in dust kicked up by space elevator collapse)
3 spacecraft (two passenger shuttles and one freighter, which were already at the Ziggurat when the Covenant attacked)
20,000+ civilians (hiding in vaults)
The UNSC soldiers are tired—they've just gone through a living hell, with their ships, cities, and fortifications all destroyed. However, they're tougher than ever. Resigned to defeat, they're out to fight as long and hard as they can and make the Covenant pay for every step they take on Bhima. The civilian population is so far safe in the vaults (as far as they know!), which would take the Covenant days to break through (from the outside!).
Covenant:
1000+ military personnel (groundside, way more in space)
100+ light vehicles (Ghosts, Revenants, Choppers)
30+ medium vehicles (Spectres and Prowlers)
12 Wraith tanks
50+ aircraft (Banshees, Spirits)
12 spacecraft (2 corvettes, 6 frigates, 3 destroyers and one CCS-class battlecruiser)
The Covenant believes victory to be inevitable—after all, they have over twice the manpower the UNSC has and far more vehicular support. With the initiative firmly in their grasp, they are out to overwhelm the Humans with force.
Opening Plot Outline (all this shit should take about a page to occur, then the RP really gets started)
Roleplay
Okay, folks, this one is going to be a bit different. Hell or High Water (HoHW) will be run according to a strict post order. Depending on who answers this interest check, I will coordinate with players and formulate a post order that will hopefully suit everybody. It will be run so that you always know when it is time for you to post. Hopefully, this will give people the incentive to keep posting, the direction in which to post (you know what I mean) and keep the RP going!
The caveat of this is whoever signs up for this mission has to be active. If one person is not active in a post-order roleplay, the whole thing stagnates. So please try to think about activity when joining up! Keep in mind, however, that we're not going to be assholes about it--we want to make this fun. It's not an obligation and if you feel you must duck out for awhile just tell me and I will temporarily remove you from the post order, or shuffle things around to make them more convenient.
Story-wise, this is gonna be a Flood-zombie-apocalypse type thing, where Covenant and UNSC alike are awash in a sea of infected. There's a few interesting twists along the way, so this should be good!
Also, this is definitively pre-War. Let's get some good canon roleplay going, guys!

Opening Plot Outline (all this shit should take about a page to occur, then the RP really gets started)
- Covenant attacks UNSC positions
- UNSC are forced to abandon the entrance to one of the vaults
- Turns out the vaults weren't filled with blocks of steel to build ships or anything—the Forerunners needed that steel to seal in the Flood! And Humans dug a whole lot of it out. Space elevator crash woke the bastards up and they're hungry
- Covenant successfully captures one of the vault entrances
- Vault opens, Flood-infected civilians pour out. Thousands of them.
- Zombie Survival Time!
- (spoilers!)
