Jiralhanae Minor Krokotus Ancient Desert - Unknown Planet Battle to the Death
Krokotus stalked along in the heat, the hot breeze reminding him of his home planet of Doisac. The land was vast, primarily sand and cracked earth, boulders littered the ground and in the not so distant distance large rock formations jutted out of the ground like ragged fangs. Very sparsely dead trees and shrubs could be seen.
It was as if this land had not seen water in many years, Krokotus feeling lucky to have a canteen on either hip as he stalked about. He paused however, his large nostrils flaring as he caught a scent. Human! He did not know where they were yet, but he knew they were out there. So now all he had to do was wait, either the Human would reveal itself or Krokotus would find them through scent.

Mikey Voronda Ancient Dessert - unknown planet Battle to the death
The Marine had been separated from his fire-team in a previous engagement, and he had been left here feeling very alone and even more hungry. He had his usual rations pack with him, but had only packed it for the mission- which was clearly over. A few meeter away, he spotted a figure that looked about the same size as him, but a lot bulkier. He thought it a mirage at first, and then hoped it were a person.
After squinting and a moments consideration, he concluded that it was actually neither of them. In fact, it was the last thing he would want to see. A Brute, only far enough to appear human-sized. Mikey rushed as quickly as he could and ducked behind a small rock formation. He began making himself as small as he could, and covering himself with sand to cover his scent.

Jiralhanae Minor Krokotus Ancient Desert - Unknown Planet Battle to the Death
Krokotus continued following the scent, turning this way and that as he snuffled, his nose working as he walked around. He was getting closer, and for a moment, he thought he heard something. But alas, he could not pinpoint the direction the sound originated from, and then the smell was being... obscured somehow.
His nose was still incredibly keen, but it would take longer for him to track the scent to its point of origin. Forerunners damn it! Krokotus had only picked up one individual's scent, but with whatever it was they used to partially cover their scent was a hindering factor he had not anticipated. Humans... devious, devious Humans.

Mikey Voronda Ancient Desert - Unknown Planet Battle to the Death
Mikey heard footsteps shuffle around towards him, near him, away from him, and in circles. Thank goodness! his idea worked better than he thought it would. He began checking his supplies for anything he could use. He only had his side arm and a few magazines. He checked for his knife which he usually kept two of... his bigger one was missing, that was just great! He continued to search his pockets and found a few plasma grenades that he looted from some bodies. He had always found them more effective than frag grenades.
He took a couple breaths and steeled himself to face his foe with three plasma grenades, a pistol, and 5 half-spent magazines. He consolidated the bullets to two clips and topped off the last clip in his gun. He had a few more in a pocket that he loaded into a magazine. He pocketed the magazines, put his knife on his belt, and grabbed his gun in his right hand, and a grenade i n his left.

Jiralhanae Minor Krokotus Ancient Desert - Unknown Planet Battle to the Death
Krokotus continued to track the scent of his enemy, and it was growing stronger, easier to follow. Soon he would be upon his prey... and their flesh would be his salvation as he dines upon them, providing much desired food. Krokotus pulled his combat knife from its sheath, the sharp blade being about two feet long.
He paused for a moment, hearing the familiar clicking of Human weaponry being made ready for battle. Krokotus grinned, showing his many sharp teeth as he reached with clawed hands for his Spiker Rifle. His massive hand constricted on the leather wrapped grip of the weapon, the twin blades scraping against his armor as he brought the weapon to bear.

Mikey Voronda Ancient Desert - unknown planet Battle to the death. Looking into the reflection of his gun, Mikey saw the beast near him. He threw the plasma grenade behind him, trying his best not to be detected. If he did it right, the grenade would explode right under the creature- hopefully stunning or even disabling it.
He readied his pistol and his stance to spring when he had to.

Jiralhanae Minor Krokotus Ancient Desert - Unknown Planet Battle to the Death
Krokotus was scanning the direction the noise had come from, Spiker Rifle in hand as his keen nose narrowed down the direction in which to head. Now he was heading straight for his foe, weapon raised and aimed. He intended to simply leap over the large rocks and dispatch the Human, but the smaller simian had other plans.
Krokotus's eyes widened as he turned to see a plasma grenade hurtling towards him. The holy flare landed behind him as he started to leap, the explosion sending him tumbling forward into the sand. He coughed and spluttered, blind firing towards the Human as he shook his head. The damn sand was all over his face.

Mikey Voronda Ancient Desert - unknown planet Battle to the Death Mikey stood up just as soon as he heard the detonation, ready to follow up the surprise strike with a second attack. A blind shot grazed his leg just below the hip as he stood up. He too was hasty to let off a couple shots, and missed a few himself. After the first three, he adjusted his aim more directly at the crouched brute.
He roared a powerful battle-cry strait from his soul, making sure to bear his teeth. He knew that covenant races saw that as a show of force.

Jiralhanae Minor Krokotus Ancient Desert - Unknown Planet Battle to the Death
Krokotus growled deeply as several rounds pinged off his armor, one embedding in the flesh of his right arm. He raised an eyebrow when the Human let out a battlecry, he was mildly impressed by it. Krokotus in turn let loose a roar like thunder that vibrated the very sand he stood upon, ear splitting at the current proximity.
Krokotus snarled viciously as he was fired upon more directly, doing so in turn and firing his Spiker Rifle at the Human. Super heated metal spikes whizzed through the air as bullets embedded in the Jiralhanae's armor and skin.

Mikey Voronda Ancient Desert - Unknown Planet Battle to the Death
Mikey immediately regretted using his battle-cry, as immediately afterwords the Brute roared back, loosing small rocks and sending a wave of sand, rocks and dust into his face. The burst got sand into his eyes, and grit into his mouth, and a couple small cuts on his arms and face. He fell to the ground as a spray of diamond shards struck him and his armor.
He spit most of the grit (and blood) from his mouth, and after a moment to catch a little bit of his bearings, he spun to his feet, rolling a second grenade close to the ground to keep it hidden. He dropped another and started sprinting as quickly as he could away from the Brute.

Jiralhanae Minor Krokotus Ancient Desert - Unknown Planet Battle to the Death
Krokotus was pleased as he watched the Human falter, firing lazily at the smaller simian purely to induce fear as the white-hot metal spikes embedded around the smaller creature. The sand turned to glass around the immediate circumference of each spike. Krokotus strode towards the Human and a slower pace, but his great legs closed the distance faster than one might have expected.
He reached for the back of his belt, pulling free one of his two grenades. The one he currently grasped was a lethal spike grenade. As the Human returned to its feet and began to flee, Krokotus hurled the spike grenade passed the smaller Simian so that it blocked its escape route and would force it back towards the Jiralhanae. Krokotus starting to walk backwards to avoid and grenades the Human had been using willy nilly.

Mikey Voronda Ancient Desert - Unknown Planet Battle to the Death
Mikey hoped that his grenades went unnoticed, and continued running with little strength spared in reserve. Suddenly, he saw a bottle-shaped device fly over his head, and land shortly in front of him. He didn't have time to stop and turn around, so he ran past it- scooping it up, he threw it back at the giant behind him as he made a quick spin to improve his aim.
He pulled his pistol back out in-case the brute began to charge after him.

Jiralhanae Minor Krokotus Ancient Desert - Unknown Planet Battle to the Death
Krokotus raised his arms to shield his face as the Humans own grenades exploded, sending little bits of rock and sand flying; some of the rock embedding in the Minor's arm. He growled softly, looking up as his own grenade was soaring towards him, Krokotus rolled away, but the grenade exploded before it ever reached him due to the timer.
Krokotus was good distance from the Human now, not too close and not too far; good Spiker Rifle distance. Krokotus fired a trio of controlled bursts at the Human, moving up as he did so to take advantage of his own attack.

Mikey Voronda Ancient Desert - Unknown Planet Battle to the Death
Mikey was confident that the thrown grenade would work, so he continued running, as fast and as hard as he could. He didn't notice what was happening behind him as he ran. Moments later, he heard a shrill whistle as spikes of a diamond-like substance buzzed past him, and a straggler clipped his shoulder. The pain was intense, and he faltered a little. Next a few more shots were fired, and this time one caught his back. He stumbled forward, falling, and rolling. The last burst of needles missed him as he rolled. He rolled onto his back- causing the spike to dig in a little deeper, and he managed to roll into a crouch.
He took a moment to collect himself, and sprinted forward once more. There was a small barrier up ahead that looked like perhaps a 2-foot wall. He vaulted over it, but landed much more than 2 feet below. Now, the wall he vaulted was taller than him, and he seemed to have landed in a small settlement. He ran a few meters to the left, and hid behind a dune as he shoved a quick energy bar down his throat.
