So, I am thinking of making a Sangheili character. I would like him to be a banshee pilot, but don't know what rank he would be, or if he was some kind of special designation ( like how special ops are different to normal soldiers). Any help would be appreciated.

Hello yamikohai, Welcome to the website! I'm not a Covenant player, but I know who would possess Covenant expertise on this topic. - Our beloved TinCanHitman, our Assistant Admin and a Covenant RPer with an Honor Guard Sangheili with the longest name I've ever seen on this site. - The Supreme Commander of Sangheili Warriors, Huka, who is a walking, breathing warrior from Sangheilios. The tags will grab their attention so all you have to do is wait

Nice to see more Covenant brothers/sisters. Welcome to the site yamikohai! I don't know as much lore or ranks as Huka or TinCanHitman, my only interest/expertise is mainly in the weaponry. I believe (I'm not 100% sure) a pilot is technically classified as a standard troop but would be most likely assigned to a spacecraft. (What type? I don't know) I can tell you: The "Banshee" is classified as a Type-26 Ground Support Aircraft, atmosphere top speed is 135 kmh (84 mph) at a level flight path and 204 kmh (120 mph) in a dive. It is armed with two Class-2 Energy Guns (simply two plasma machine guns) and two Class-2 Projectile Cannons (The fuel rod gun things that go BWAM). Roles include: Ground Support Fighter Recon Sorry if I got Ranty. XD Edit: BetaWülf is good source too.

You would have a Minor who would be attached to a choir of four or so other banshees lead by a major. You would deploy from a ship as ground support.

But it depends if you wanted your Jelly to be a ground Close Air Support kind of pilot or one for space in those deathtraps space Banshees.
Either way you wouldn't really need a ship per say. Mostly because there are very few PC Covie ships flying about for you to join up. More likely you would just wait for a mission to begin. One will be soon. And then waiting for one of the Commanders of the sect to call you in for some destruction. If you were in space you would just join the space people when they tussle it out
As for rank its flexible. If you wanted to be a new pilot you could be a minor. But if you wanted to lead a choir of craft you would most likely have to be a Major. Higher rank than that you would probably be moved to a better type of ship - like a Seraph or Vampire. Same as if you are very experienced/good. Banshee to me seems to be like the training wheels in a sense.
Hope that helped. If you got more questions I'll do my best to answer.
