So a member came to me with some very good ideas, ideas that may have been proposed in the past have also been implemented into the topic of this thread. Make no mistake, this isn't a 'We're doing this now, right now.' type of thread, this is a vote. Plain and simple, a vote.
Yappas is a website in which individuals role-play. I've been given many opinions that the way we do missions is boring. Attack planet A, kill the humans. Humans defend city B until planet A has fallen, etc, etc, etc. It's repetitive, but the Unit Mission was actually quite successful because it allowed for character interaction rather than constant combat.
So, Samuel Murray came to me today with an idea.
Smaller threads, faster paced and each individually. In essience, more personal and character freedom that is not granted in the big unit missions where the outcome usually lies on the most high tiered profile in the fighting, because quite honestly they chew through the opposition like a SPARTAN in the games do.
This new system I'm about to explain will promote lower tiers as well as social development with other characters. In reality, we hope it will also bring back the 'fun' despite what may look repetitive in the missions objectives. Using ideas from the community, in which a new Story Development thread will be posted, we will actively merge together to create a better RP for each other.
I am extremely excited I'm shaking while writing this post. I think this new method will effectively introduce a new element of 'fun' back into the RP.
So, let's get onto the new system:
Let's take this mission as an example:
The Covenant have found a holy relic inside a human city. The Covenants overall objective is to extract the artifact and, learning that a high ranking human is on the planet, kill the human. The UNSCs objective is to locate the Prophet and either capture or kill the leadership, plain and simple.
The Main Mission will not actually be playable, instead it will be constant updates from the staff (or members) about how individual 'unit threads' are progressing, both from the Covenant and UNSC perspectives. The Main Mission is the premise of these smaller, quicker threads. There may even be up to a dozen unit threads before it is finally accomplished, but not a single IC post will be within it's contents. Instead of a big thread, there will be many more smaller threads, if you didn't understand that.
These unit threads will focus on a specific unit. For example: As of this moment the MEB (Marine Expeditionary Brigade) is being shrunk to a MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit) to encourage character development. Well, these threads are along the same lines. Each thread will contain a single objective for a specific unit. So in this case let's say the MEU's Battalion Landing Team has deployed along a city in search for a Covenant prophet who was stupid enough to go ground side.
One of the unit threads will be the Recon Element searching for the prophet. Another will be Alpha Company paving a way through a Covenant blockade, and four other threads suddenly pop up: Alpha Platoon, Bravo Platoon, Charlie Platoon and Delta Platoon each have individual objectives now, but the thread will be based on paving through the Covenant blockade. One objective might be to destroy a turret emplacement, another might to to secure a flanking route, while another may be to suppress and overwhelm the Covenant Forces. You can get much more creative.
On the Covenant side, you've got the entire companies of the MEU being NPC'd, so they'd have similar but different objectives. Since it will be a tactical battle, which means people would have to keep track of the other threads, the Covenant could effectively get behind the UNSC PC company and engage in a bloody PVP in a new thread.
So the structure will look a little bit like this.
/ - Indicates parent mission
// - Indicates unit mission
/// - Indicated sub-unit mission (when applicable)
/ Mission Eight
// MEU, ? Battalion, Alpha Company Unit Mission
/// A Co. 1st Platoon
/// A Co. 2nd Platoon
/// A Co. 3rd Platoon
/// A Co. 4th Platoon
// Legion of Relentless Might
/// Creche of Gleaming Light
/// Creche of Glorious Redemption
/// Etc, etc, etc
What do you guys think?
Please read before you vote in the pool, thank you.
