(So, I thought it would be interesting to expand my ONI agent's biography, but decided to make it into a separate thread because who knows how long it will be. Pretty sure it will be long - I think -, and I can link it from his profile. So, there's that. Anyway, after asking SC, Tracker, Tin, Beta12, BetaW, Fac, and Lax if I can use and/or mention their characters, and then having them agree, this plan for this story has come into fruition. Before I begin, I'd like to thank those individuals for allowing me the pleasure in using their wonderful characters for this. Enjoy, and more will be updated as I write this in chapters. Feedback is welcomed, and you have my permission to post here.)

Agent Moretti was sitting in the Pelican bay with the three other ONI agents who were under his command. Gold Team was already dropped off at their LZ, while the ONI agents were on their way to their LZ, located somewhere behind the Covenant outpost they were planning on taking out after recovering data for both ONI and UNSC forces. Agent Sage Lewis, who sat on his right, was a few years younger than him, but has been a field agent a lot longer than he has. The two also so happened to be secretly going out with each other for five years now. Next month, he was planning on giving her an engagement ring while they were off duty; something he had been wanting to do for the past couple of months, but couldn't because of butterflies in his stomach, and not feeling that the two were ready for more of a commitment. Now, he thought they were both ready, and the thought of wanting to go further in their relationship made him grin like an idiot.
Agent Corey Midora sat across from him on the other side of the Pelican, and Olunike Jones was sitting next to Agent Midora. Midora had been a field agent for four years now, while Jones was the baby of the group, so to speak, with a couple of years of field experience. All three of them, including Moretti made up ONI's Recon Unit 616, or “Team Penumbra”, which was created back in 2539 when the Italian was transferred over to field operations at the request of his handler, Agent Wagner. Agent Moretti and Lewis were the only ones who didn't have their helmets on, while the other two did, as the two created small talk, and seemingly making subtle flirts to each other in low whispers in between talking about the mission.
“Hopefully, this will go smoothly,” Agent Lewis muttered worriedly. “Dealing with Innies, I'm fine with, but I'm not too fond of missions dealing with the Covies.”
“I agree with you there,” Moretti replied, glancing from his helmet to her, and then back down at the helmet in between his hands. “I don't think anyone is ever fond with dealing with the Covenant...except, maybe for those who enjoy it.” He grimaced. “Like Psycho Paul.” He paused, shaking his head. "I have other names for that cazzo pazzo ("crazy fuck"), but 'psycho' summarizes him completely."
Lewis snickered. “Paul? Oh, god, yes,” she smirked. “Paul really enjoys it when they capture a Grunt or a Jackal, and the rare opportunities when ONI captures an Elite. He gets too excited when it comes to the whole torturing and interrogating thing. Well, no one calls him 'Psycho Paul' for nothing, I guess.”
“Jesus Christ,” He continued to grimace. “Don't remind me, Sage. I had the unfortunate duty in sitting with him in the interrogation room once. Once...let me be clear, once was enough for me. Never again am I going to sit with someone like that, and have to go through hearing and seeing how he tries to get the prisoners to talk.”
She winced. “Sorry...”
“It's fine,” He sighed, gazing over at her and managed a smile. When she playfully elbowed him in the arm, he smirked, scoffed a bit, and elbowed her back.
“Anyway...” He shook his head in amusement. “We're helping Gold Team out with this. So, that should count for something.”
“Yeah, like the high risk of getting killed,” Lewis responded with a scoff. “A mission helping Gold Team just makes things much worse.”
“It's not like they said this operation wasn't a high-risk mission, Sage,” Moretti raised an eyebrow, and went on, “Because, you know, if you listen at the briefings for once, you would have known it is a high-risk mission.”
Lewis looked at him, mouthing, 'Shut-up', but she knew he was teasing her about not listening because she did, and he knew it and was just being an ass to her.
“I'm just...I've never been a fan of being dropped off behind enemy lines,” she forced a nervous smile before putting on her helmet.
Moretti eyed her carefully, and then briefly pressed his gloved hand against hers, and then patted it lightly.
“We'll be fine,” he whispered in assurance. “Just do what we always do, follow my orders, and all of us will get out alive. Plus, we're helping the Spartans take out Covenant patrols on their way to the enemy outpost the Prowler picked up on radar. Once they clear out all known enemy positions we help them find, and then help them secure the outpost, we can go in, recover any important date to send back to HIGH-COM.” He smiled, putting on his own helmet. He then spoke to her through the helmet's speakers, “Then we can go back, have a few beers, and celebrate another job well done.”
The Pelican pilot finally spoke to all of them, saying, "Lieutenant Moretti. LZ is in five minutes."
"Copy that, Sergeant Lane."

Team Penumbra formed a watchful perimeter around the Pelican, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious since they landed in a flat, clear area. The planet was seemingly devoid of plant and animal life, and the only constant sound they could hear was coming from the howling wind that kicked up dust every now and again from the ground. They could certainly breathe, as the atmosphere was breathable for humans, but with all of the dust being picked up and thrown about, keeping their helmets on throughout the mission will be a good idea; at least until they can get inside the outpost. Of course, their thoughts of why the Covenant were using this planet as an outpost of some kind was that there were two small human colonies on this lifeless rock, mining valuable metals to help the UNSC further with the war effort against the Covenant. The colonies were spread far apart (4 clicks each), and all of them stopped checking in. Moretti figured they were either all dead, or were in hiding deep down in the mines for any type of communications to work, or were able to evacuate long before the Prowler found the outpost.
Once the landing zone was all-clear, Agent Moretti gave the pilot a thumbs-up. ”LZ is clear.”
“Roger that, LT,” replied the pilot, “See you on the other side.”
As the Pelican pilot lifted off and left the ONI agents, the Italian spoke into the radio to inform the Spartans of their set-rep.
<<“Gold Team, we're on the ground, heading to a vantage point to target any Covenant positions on your way to the outpost. Then we'll meet you there when you arrive.”>>
<<“Copy that, Ombra,”>> responded Silas-009, as he and the rest of the Spartans headed toward Team Penumbra's position. <<“Gold Team is on the move; encountering a few minor resistance in our area.”>>
<<”All clear in our location. Moving out. Happy hunting. Over.”>>
Moretti glanced at Agent Midora. “Midora, take point.”
Nodding, the other agent took point and Moretti's team were moving cautiously through the vast, lifeless desert-like landscape. It reminded him of a dry lake bed somewhere like Death Valley on Earth, minus the scorching hot temperatures though. He checked the planet's temperature again, and it was now 70 degree Fahrenheit/21 degree Celsius as he brought up the data on his HUD. It was a good temperature, but at least they didn't decide to conduct this operation in the dead of winter here, because apparently the temperatures snap freeze during the night time hours at dangerous low levels. It was also why the miners are only here during the Spring through Fall, and ship off to their worlds until Winter passes.
Ten minutes later, while they continued toward a rocky incline that would take them fifteen minutes or so to climb to the top, he said to the three agents, “Let's hurry up and find a good vantage point up there. We should be able to spot any enemy patrols from there.”
“What's the rush, Mike? You can't wait to get back on the ship to change your old man diapers?”
“No, I want to get back and give my money to your mom, since I was in a rush to leave the other night and forgot about it, Corey.”
Agent Midora and Jones suddenly laughed, and Lewis could only but roll her eyes and grin a little as she shook her head.
“Oooh, boy,” Agent Jones continued to chuckle at the low blow. It took her a while to get used to the team's teasing of each other, but she was used to it now. She especially loved it when she heard Moretti and Midora's snarky banter; throwing insults, mostly, but never seriously, even though it sounded like they were serious.
“Damn, dude...” Midora responded, grinning as he glanced back at his team leader, who silently extended his middle finger at him.
"LT, that's either the worse your mom joke ever told, or the best. I'm not sure right now. I have to think about that, man."
"Well, don't rack your brain thinking too hard, you might smash the pea."
