A Rude Awakening
Ceberus SystemUnexplored Space
UNSC FFG-343 Shadow of Night, Paris Class Frigate
The Shadow, a Paris Frigate, had been sent on a scouting mission to an unexplored system. Although the entire system has not been completely uncovered, one planet has, in fact, been discovered. But three days later, a very faint signal has started to emit just outside the planet. One that wasn't there before. But how could this be? They have just discovered the planet, and nothing was near it before.
The Shadow was sent to check out this faint signal. It was unknown where it was originating from, but as the Shadow flew closer, the signal got stronger until finally the Shadow was able to pinpoint it's location. They found where the faint signal seemed to be originating from, which happened to be a Covenant ship. Fuck. With the crew thinking the ship had lured them into a trap and detected them, the Shadow fired it's MAC. The large round hurtled through the dark void, impacting through the side of the light cruiser's hull-disabling it's shields. But the cruiser gave no response. It just simply floated there.
The Shadow whisped through space as it's engines thrusted through the empty void followed by a loud groan as it came to a sudden halt in a parallel position to the cruiser. The Shadow's 14 Pelicans began loading Marines onto them, preparing to board the cruiser. Something was wrong, and they were going to find out what. If the cruiser really is abandoned, then something on it must of made them leave.
Meanwhile, on Pelican Zulu-028
"I'm telling you, I sense some bad mojo up in here." said Private First Class Kai, looking around with a superstitious glaze in his eyes. His foot tapping on the floor suggested he was of course nervous. They all were in their own right. Boarding some ghost ship was the most exciting thing any of them had done in a while.
"Kai, stop whining. The bloody ship's probably abandoned." barked Sergeant Douglas.
"But why would the Covenant just abandon a ship like that? Makes no sense." Kai replied.
"Just shut the fuck up and get ready to board." Sergeant Douglas said in a firm, serious voice.
Everyone slightly lurched forward, in response to the Pelican lifting of the ground. The Pelican suddenly stopped a moment, hovering, before zooming out of the hanger really fast. As it flew across the void of space to get to the the cruiser's hanger, a Corporal spoke up. "We're in trouble." Corporal Kerendov said, agreeing with what Kai said earlier.
The Pelican stopped just outside the Cruiser's hanger. The shield wasn't active, and there was no Phantoms or Spirits in sight. Why had the Covenant abandoned this ship? The Pelican slowly flew into the Hanger, hovering around 10 feet in the air. It then spun to the right into a 180, so that it's nose was facing the hanger door. The Pelican then descended until it was barely touching the cold metal floor. The Pelican's door opened, and the Marines piled out. Thankfully, they had the EVA variant of their standard issue armor, so the airless vacuum of space didn't kill them.

Cruiser's Bridge
Ossoona Lokin 'Lorensee
"Ossoona, you have been chosen by the Council of Masters, in an effort to attain presumed important information. Do you know the tasks you have been given?" The Shipmaster asked of the Ossoona.
"Yes. I know of the righteous tasks I must complete for the holy ones." Lokin replied.
"Speak your tasks then." The Shipmaster said.
"I thought you already knew of the tasks?" Lokin asked.
"Oh, I do. But I want to know if you know them." The Shipmaster replied.
"I am to capture the Human's artificial intelligence residing aboard the ship, in an effort to attain any important information on the Humans and their doomed colonies. I will do so, or die trying." Lokin said.
"Good. You and my Stealth Teams will be boarding the Human's ship while cloaked. You are to get on the boarding craft located at the underside Hanger. These boarding craft will cloak themselves, and board the Human's Escape Hatches, which our cruiser will destroy when it cripples the Human's ship. Once you land in their ship, the Stealth Teams will spread themselves throughout the ship and efficiently eliminate the crew. They won't see it coming." The Shipmaster said.
"You, on the other hand, will be escorted by two Stealth Sangheili on your journey towards the Human bridge. While you work on capturing their intelligence, they will eliminate the bridge crew." The Shipmaster continued.
"What of you?" Lokin said.
"I and my crew will remain on the ship cloaked, so if the Humans find the bridge, they won't see us. Once you board the ship, we will open fire on the Frigate and cripple it, allowing you to kill the crew as they panic. Now go, the Humans should be arriving by now." The Shipmaster said.
The Ossoona exited to bridge, escorted by two Stealth Sangheili, and began walking towards a Hanger that was on the underside of the cruiser. What was about to happen, the Humans wouldn't see it coming...until it was too late, that is.

Cruiser Hanger
Private Daniels
Daniels looked all around the barren hanger. There was a dark ambience to this place. It was very quiet, very empty, like a ghost ship. No, it was a ghost ship. Daniels jumped when he heard metal clatter, but it turns out a Marine accidentally dropped his MA5B. This place was scary as Hell, and Daniels only thought was hoping to get the Hell out of the bloody place.
"Anyone want to go exploring?" Krendov asked Daniels and Kai.
"I'm in." Kai replied.
"You two are shitting me, right?" Daniels asked hopefully.
"I shit you not, comrade." Krendov replied, as he began to walk off, with Kai following him.
Daniels followed with a sigh. It was obvious he wouldn't be able to convince them to come back. Like folks back home use to say, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Daniels thought. The group went through one of the many doors that lead into the hanger. The corridors of this place were so luminous, yet so dark at the same time.
"Where the Hell are we going?" Daniels asked.
"No idea." Krendov replied.
"Then why are we here? This is pointless." Daniels spoke back.
"Ah, that's why they invented exploring! Walking through places that you aren't familiar with at all." Krendov said cheerfully.
Daniels was annoyed yet scared at the same time. Those two idiot Marines, especially Krendov, were exploring some place that they knew nothing about. They were all signing their death warrants. The other thing that scared Daniels was how the corridors were occasionally very long, and how the corridors were luminous even in the intense amount of darkness. The place was freaky. At any moment something could appear out of the black and kill them - or worse.
Just then, a very loud thud was heard, like metal hitting metal. This caused Daniels to jump and fall on his back. Daniels was scared shitless. Ignoring the slight pain from falling, Daniels focused on one thought: We need to get the bloody Hell out of here. Whatever the Hell that noise was, it sure wasn't a sign of good fortune.
"Daniels, stop being such a panzy. Probably just a rat, or some type of alien mouse the Covies let roam around. Nothing to worry about." Krendov said.
Up ahead, Kai cut a corner, heading left and out of sight. Krendov held is hand downwards toward Daniels, offering to help him up. Daniels took the offer, and held Kendov's hand as he lifted him up. As they were about to proceed to follow Kai, they heard a scream, then the sound of something heavy plummeting into the ground.
Scooting up to the corner to take cover, they drew their weapons. Daniels poked his head half-way around the corner. "Psst, Kai? You there? Kai!" Daniels whispered. Taking a full look around the corner, he saw a dead body lying on it's back with two cauterized holes carved into the chestplate. Daniels stared in horror. Then he noticed something weird. The image of Kai's body was wobbly, like throwing a rock into water and then staring at your reflection.
It happened to be a Sangheili, and it uncloaked. "Your friend is dead, Human." The Elite spoke loud and clear. Daniels jumped, then darted back from where he came from, trying to get to the Hanger. He could Kerendov's voice from afar. "Hey, what's wrong Daniels, where you goin-" Kerendov's voice was cut off as an Energy Sword pierced his back and emerged out of his chest, lifting him into the air, and then slamming him onto the ground.
Daniels ran for his life, trying to get back to the Hanger, but he fell onto his belly as Plasma Rifle fire hit the back of his leg. He rolled onto his back and crawled backwards, despite the pain, in an attempt to get away from the Elite. As the Elite got closer and closer, Daniels panicked in fear, until the Elite stood over him, holding the Plasma Rifle to Daniel's head.
"Not today, Human." The Elite said, as he fired three bolts into the Human's face, killing him instantly.

Cruiser Hanger
Sergeant Douglas
It was quiet. Too quiet. Douglas continued patrolling around the Hanger, until he heard a loud boom, that of a Plasma Mortar. But it wasn't a Plasma Mortar. The Cruiser had just awakened from it's slumber and fired a Plasma Torpedo at the Frigate. It landed near the Reactor, effectively shutting it down. The Frigate was now vulnerable, all sorts of power were just cut off. Escape Pod hatches all across the Frigate opened up as Bumblebees shot out. Pulse Lasers from the Cruiser eradicated them, and the Cruiser sent boarding craft to enter the hatches and board the Frigate.
Zulu and the other Pelicans activated their thrusters, as Douglas boarded Zulu. The many Pelicans boosted out of the Hanger and towards the Frigate. Pulse Lasers again shot from the Lustrous hull of the Cruiser, attempting to destroy the Pelicans. Zulu got hit in the back, but it wasn't destroyed. Other Pelicans couldn't say the same.
Zulu was a lucky pelican. It was 1 of only 4 Pelicans that just survive the sudden casualty spike. 10 Pelicans were just destroyed by the barrage of the Pulse lasers. 2 of the 4 surving Pelicans were unscathed, while the other two, Zulu included, were damaged by the barrage. Zulu flew towards the Shadow, and came crashing into one of it's Hangers. It slammed into the floor of the Hanger, gliding across the floor before coming to a halt.
"Sergeant!" A distant voice was heard calling out for Douglas.
"Sergeant!" The voice became clearer, and Douglas opened his eyes, only to see lots of blurs.
"SERGEANT!" He heard the voice boom in his head. Blinking, everything became clearer. He was laying on the floor of the Pelican. Luckily, it remained upright in the crash. The interior of the Pelican had small flames dotted everywhere. Someone was also standing over him, a fellow Marine.
"Good, you're awake. Listen, we haven't got much time. The Covenant boarded us after destroying our escape craft. They planned all of this. Having our Pelicans sent in removed the main fighting force - us - from the Frigate, leaving her vulnerable. When we tried to go back, they destroyed most of us. Now we're sitting ducks." The Marine sighed.
"Damn. Covenant bastards!" Douglas yelled. He got up and looked around his MA5B, but it was gone. Luckily, there was an M6H in front of him. He picked it up and holstered it.
"Orders, si-" The Marine was cut short as the Pelican tilted sideways from an explosion. He was sent stumbling into a flaming seat, and he was engulfed in a ball of flame. He cried in agony as he was burned alive. The charred body sat there, as it finally stopped twitching. Douglas looked in horror what just happened, but he had to move on. He pulled out his M6H and dove out of the flaming wreckage as another explosion hit it. He rolled behind a large pile of debris.
He looked around the Debris to see a SpecOps Grunt with a Fuel Rod. It payed no attention to the destroyed Pelican, as he just obliterated it. Douglas aimed his M6H at it, and pulled the trigger. The bullet soared through the air and slammed into the Grunt's skull, killing it instantly. It's corpse fell to the ground.
Douglas darted from his cover and sprinted for a door, hoping to get out of the Hanger. He managed to do so, but it wasn't a very good idea. The long corridors were incredibly dark, considering the lights went out. This sent shivers up his spine, but Douglas knew his main priority - rendezvous at the Bridge, get orders from the Captain. With that Douglas set off, cautious with the fact that the boarding party could be cloaked. The Covenant were known for doing shit like that.
(WIP for the time being)
