Hello! Welcome to Yappa's Halo RPG.
The year is 2548, in the month of January. Our current main mission is mission seven, which pits UNSC Marines and Army against a slightly numerous Covenant opposition.
Though out the war, beginning in 2525, the Covenant have slowly increased their stranglehold on the UNSC. They continue to methodically and religiously whittle down the human defenses and resources by glassing human planets and destroying vital human warships as they find them. The UNSC are fighting back as hard as they can, but the Covenant continue their campaign for total extinction.
In Mission Three the UNSC fleet, commanded by Admiral Eric Klix and Rear Admiral David Vardy, deployed Marines to the planet of Zenith in an attempt to evacuate the populace. During the course of the mission the Marines and Army fought hard but ultimately suffered heavy casualties. Meanwhile the UNSC took near total casualties in space, being forced to retreat to the systems edge - allowing the Covenant to take total control over the contested planet for numerous hours - and paid the price when multiple groups of UNSC servicemen and women were glassed.
Due to the quick thinking of both then Lieutenant (Promoted on the field to Captain) Johnathon Killinger and his Platoon Sergeant the Marines held a vital intersection that allowed the UNSC Army to push the Covenant back from the population center in that area, allowing civilians to retreat.
Then Covenant, however, had plans of their own. They destroyed vital UNSC military bases by turning them into molten steel as Covenant warships glassed them into oblivion and managed to cripple the UNSCs chain of supply by taking out the only bridge into the cities west sectors. Ultimately, with the destruction of the bridge, the Covenant were able to surround the UNSC in the main city.
With the UNSC Navy all but destroyed an emergency evacuation of all military forces was ordered. In an attempt to 'swing by' and pick up their retreating forces the Admiral and the vessels under his command used multiple decoy tactics that ultimately worked. During the aggressive stage of the plan some wild MAC rounds struck the planet, causing massive global tremors.
The UNSC Forces were able to evacuate, leaving the surviving inhabitants to their doom as Zenith broke apart from the numerous MAC strikes in the same location.
In Mission Four the Marines of Task Force Seven Seven located a CSO Class SuperCarrier with the help of an non-encrypted transmission from a Covenant Network and an unknowing informative releasing the information (Little did they know this was a ploy by pirate Kig-yar). The entire ships air supply had been sabotaged by the kig-yar in an attempt to acquire the powerful capital ship for themselves. However, the UNSC and Covenant were after an Imperial Admiral frozen in stasis. The UNSC sought an alliance while the Covenant required his leadership.
The Marines deployed through a hanger, reached the bridge and managed to get life support back online before the first engagements with a Covenant fleet that had arrived and deployed their forces to the engine room. With the command systems also severed, the bridge could not command the engines and the engines could not power up without the access codes from the bridge.
As a result this initiated a large scale battle on the twenty two kilometer vessel. With UNSC and Covenant forces on the few decks that supported life support the battle for control of the warships vital areas displayed both decisive Covenant and UNSC victories on multiple decks. The UNSC were forced to fortify the bridge when the 'main deck' Marines had been killed, which allowed Covenant direct access to the bridge. Fortunately, Captain Johnathon Killinger - who had taken command of Task Force Seven Seven - set up a well thought out defense that managed to keep the Covenant at bay.
In the upper and lower decks of the capital warships, however, the UNSC exchanged ground. Both forces pushed and got pushed back multiple times, but the Marines were able to push the Covenant back to a point where they were forced to set up explosive ambushes in the form of traps and suicide grunts to stop the advancing momentum. The Marines ultimately pushed the Covenant back to the engine room but by that time the Covenant had located the imperial admiral they were after. A retreat was ordered and the survivors of the Covenant boarding parties begun to pull back to the engine room.
The Covenant were able to escape, leaving the UNSC the SuperCarrier.
In space a bloody and destructive space battle had been fought. Admiral's Klix and Vardy had lost nearly their entire response fleets to the Covenants reinforcements for the CSO Class SuperCarrier. Though victorious, unlike their previous engagement, they only survived with a handful of ships.
In Mission Five Admiral Vardy and the remnants of his fleet deployed ground forces onto a distant jungle planet after tailing a damaged Covenant Corvette to an undisclosed and unidentified woodland habitable planet. The Admiral, knowing that the Imperial Admiral and Corvette had crashed on the planet, ordered a base to be set up and a raid on the Covenant ship when the UNSC was strong enough.
Under the guise of jamming any radio transmissions to and from the Covenant helped the UNSC get their base operational at an almost leisurely pace, but more importantly rejected the crash survivors of vital reinforcements. When the UNSC was strong enough to attack, they did, in a massive force meant to overwhelm and crush the surviving forces.
During the battle some tactical errors were made by the commanding officer of Task Force Seven Seven, a Lieutenant Colonel who was replaced by the arrival of recently promoted Colonel Killinger but by that time it was already to late. An Arbiter was killed after a hardy battle. During the battle many Covenant and Humans alike fell prey to the giant insects that were natural to the planet they had landed on. Although one lucky marine managed to take one for a ride, though unintentionally.
The battle was rather lopsided as the Covenant were able to get back into space while fending off a superior Marine force that were unable to penetrate their defenses, though the Lieutenant Colonel's mistakes didn't help, and as a result were defeated on the ground.
However, because the operation was linked to the capture of a CSO Class SuperCarrier, High Command designated the battle as a tactical victory, but understood the Covenant had won the strategical battle. However, shortly after the end of the battle, the CSO Class SuperCarrier lost contact with the UNSC and the fate of the UNSC personnel stationed on board is ultimately unknown.
The next mission brought them to Hope. A UNSC Controlled planet that radio'd for help when a single Covenant ship arrived in orbit and started deploying troops. Then they unearthed a forerunner artifact and activated it, generating an EMP field that has rendered technology inert. Brutes, sensing the upper hand have decided to take advantage of the situation. The Space fleet had arrived and took out the lone covenant ship, but now are contending with a new threat in the form of a Covenant fleet.
