What the hell?
I originally was going to simply just have people just post a small little OOC section at the top of their introductory post letting me know some basics about their character, but now I've decided against it. So, here the thread to sign up.
My character's sheet:
Basic Information[/u]
Name: Michael Jonathan Ward
Age: 30
Birth Date: February 13th, 2497
Birth Place: Grimwald, Harvest
Gender: Male
Height: 5'11
Weight: 175 lbs
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Blood Type: A+
Military Information[/u]
UNSC Military Service Identification: 2793509
Service Number: 27634-17897-MW
Rank: Gunnery Sergeant (E-7)
Billet: Platoon Sergeant
Physical Description[/u]
Michael Ward is tone and physically fit from years of serving in the Marine Corps. His hair is trimmed to the infamous regulation "high and tight" and he sports some peach fuzz beneath his bottom lip. Ward has a mildly tan complexion, though it is beginning to fade due to prolonged deployment to post-first contact Harvest. He sports broad shoulders, a toned and muscular physique that would make any lady go crazy if he were shirtless.
However, this toned physique has been marred by the scars inflicted upon his body from battles past. Burn scars are the most recent addition to the plethora of marks across his body, covering some percentage of his chest, shoulders, and back. On his face is a single thin, jagged scar from the tip of an Insurrectionist blade that cut from his left cheek to the middle of his chin. While technically, he could have his scars surgically removed, he has opted to keep them. A reminder of the close calls from his past; a means of reminding him he is not invincible.
Personality[/u]
Michael Ward is your typical SNCO. He is firm, hard on his men, but fair. He treats everyone with a modicum of respect and professional curtiousy, regardless of their rank or experience. This does not mean he doesn't raise his voice and instill the fear of God in his troops; he just doesn't utilize the same means as other NCOs to reach the same end.
In carrying out his duties he calm, collected, and diligent. When scheduled to be somewhere, he is always five minutes early and fully prepared for whatever the situation calls for. He looks after his subordinates and does his damndest to bring them home alive.
Ward is also a family man and isn't afraid to let others know it. Shortly after enlisting he met the woman of his dreams, married her, and together they have a child growing up back on Reach. His family is important to him and the majority of his paychecks goes to them so that money never becomes an issue. He keeps a picture of his wife and son in the left breast pocket of his fatigues at all times. When there is nothing going on he will occasionally stop to stare at the two-dimensional image and reminisce about the times he's spent with his family.
Background[/u]
Michael Jonathan Ward was born at Grimwald Regional Hospital at 5:30 AM Local Time on Harvest. His father served as a Drill Sergeant in the UNSC Army while his mother was unemployed, fulfilling the role of stay-at-home mom. Michael had a happy upbringing and did fairly well in school; although, it was quickly learned by others he was no push over. When he'd entered middle school there were a handful of punks that tried to bully him. The result of their attempts were a few bloody noses, a cracked jaw, and other minor injuries. While this caused him to be suspended from school, his father applauded him--not reprimanded him--for taking up for himself.
At the tentative age of seventeen, Michael decided what he wanted to be in life was a Marine. A pair of Marine Corps recruiters came to his school and told the young students about the Marines. Having grown up with a father who'd served in the Army, Michael had always contemplated the military life, but wasn't sure the Army was what he wanted.
After seeing what the Marines were and learning a little about them, he was hooked; he'd found his calling finally.
So as soon as he'd graduated high school, Michael enlisted and shipped off to boot camp. He found recruit training to be delightfully challenging and, while it was hard and took a lot out of him, he never gave up. On the day he graduated his father showed up in his Class A dress uniform and congratulated his son on becoming a Marine.
Shortly after the fresh Private Ward was shipped off to Reach for technical training. He chose to go infantry when he'd signed his papers and was now learning the ropes of being an infantry Marine. Three months later he completed his training and was assigned to his first unit.
Bravo Company, Forty First Marines.
He was sent to the colony of New Corvo, a lush jungle world with few metropolitan areas that had become a hive for insurgent forces. The combat there had been fierce and Michael's baptism of fire was during a routine mechanized patrol through a main dirt road that bisected the jungle and lead to the main highway from their Forward Operating Base. The Insurrectionists ambushed the convoy with rockets and the Marines had to blow through the ambush in order to reach the highway. Michael survived and tallied his first confirmed kill.
Ward served with Bravo Company for several years before being reassigned to Oscar Company, Second Platoon, shortly after attaining the rank of Corporal. The newly-minted NCO was put in charge of a four man fire team. He was at first nervous about his new role as a leader, but he adjusted quickly. With Oscar Company, Ward participated in some of the most brutal battles against the Insurrection at the time. Just months after he had joined the unit he lost two of the men under his command to a grenade having been thrown by an Innie. It took him awhile to come to terms with the loss, as he took it personally.
After a year with Oscar Company, Ward was promoted to Sergeant and appointed the leader of third squad. After more engagements with Innies and the loss of their platoon sergeant, Staff Sergeant Cruz, Ward was again promoted and offered the billet. He accepted.
Six months after this happened, Harvest fell off the grid. When it was learned that it had been attacked by an alien hegemony known only as the Covenant, Ward pleaded with his commanding officer that they go. As luck would have it, their regiment was chosen among many to accompany Admiral Preston Cole's fleet to Harvest.
Since then, Ward and the rest of Oscar Company have been on Harvest, fighting to retake a world that was rightfully belonged to humanity. Just recently Ward was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant, and still serves as platoon sergeant to this day.
