The year is 2080. Humanity has developed virtual reality technology, and the ability to broadcast the virtual reality world onto screens and from holographic projectors. The gladiator has returned, this time with virtual reality technology. People no longer die in the arena, only their representations. Various gladiatorial leagues have popped up, all under the National Wargaming League. Some use Roman-era weapons, recreating the original gladiators. Some use medieval weapons. Some use Age of Exploration-era weapons. Some use 20th century weapons. But the most common is current weapons. Professional gladiator is now an acceptable job, just as professional basketball player or professional football player.
---------WAR GAMES---------
Kyle walked down the hallway to the training rooms. The team had a live match coming up in a few weeks, and they needed to be ready. Walking in, Kyle started checking over the VR gear as the other eleven members of the team filed in. He was team captain, and as such, was the face of the team. Once the entire team had filed in, Kyle finished up his check-over and took a position at the center of the room, with his teammates arranged around him.
"OK guys, you all know we've got a big match against the Panthers coming up. We're good, but we're not the best. To be the best, we've gotta train. We've gotta train hard, and we've gotta train often. Alright guys, let's hit the games."
The team shuffled off to their individual VR setups. Each setup was a reclining chair surrounded by a group of machinery--vital signs monitors, the VR goggles and computer, and the technician that stood by and monitored the vitals monitor. Relaxing into his chair, Kyle closed his eyes as the goggles were slipped over his head and the technician hooked him up to the vitals monitor. It was time to rock.
