(I am just writing these deaths for fun and because I find the concept interesting, the following characters are currently alive.)
[shadow=red,left,300]Tavise[/shadow]
The mission had been a simple one, board the Covenant ship and take the intelligence, kill all on board. Tavise didn't know that meant him though.
Tavise, Rakath and Legra were running down a corridor. The small ship's bridge wasn't too far now. They were all lightly wounded, but had make it through the large number of forces well so far. Two lances appeared, Rakath and Legra fought the one with two minors and some Unggoy while Tavise focused on the other with a Major and a group of Kig-Yar. With ease, the Heretic ran through the Jackals, ending their lives quickly with his energy sword. He greeted the minor with a slash across the chest as he saw the other two Heretics kill their targets. Each one of them nodded and moved on.
Eventually they were able to reach the front of the ship. Their final challenge had anticipated them, with weapons firing. Who stood were two Sangheili Ultras and the Shipmaster. One of the Ultras had started firing at Rakath underestimating his opponent as Legra started firing at the other Ultra. With his comrades fighting, Tavise raised two plasma rifles and unloaded on the shipmaster. The Covenant man's shields withstood most of the bullets as it took out his plasma repeater. Each man had their own battle to fight and each was separate.
After a barrage of bullets from both sides, Tavise decided it was time to take charge. He ran towards the shipmaster with his energy sword in hand but was unprepared for what awaited him. The Covenant soldier had a needler which was knocked across the Heretic's face. Not only did some of the needles reach skin and stab the Special Operations soldier, a few exploded temporarily blinding him. Roaring in pain Tavise swung his energy sword which thankfully cut the shipmaster in half from immense strength. He then realized his two friends had already killed their targets and were both busy with their own task. Rakath was holding off the other troops trying to kill them as Legra got the intelligence.
"Our objective is finished, I have retrieved the required data. The shipmaster is also dead." Legra stated as Tavise nodded.
"If you can, my commander, please adjust the engine and thrusters on this ship to explode. We must kill all the Covenant who remain here." The Heretic requested. The Huntsmaster looked worried, but after seeing the look in Tavise's eyes and the damage done by the needler, nodded and started typing. The Heretic team was told they had five minutes to get out, they began fighting their way to the drop pods.
After much difficult fighting, the team made it to the hallway leading to their escape. Just then a Zealot reared it's head from around the corner. There was only two minutes left on the counter, they didn't have time for this. Rakath raised his dual greatswords as Legra aimed down two plasma repeaters. They continued backing up until they made it to the drop pods, the Zealot didn't make a move. As they were a few feet from the wall, the Covenant soldier threw a plasma grenade that landed at the feet of the team. Tavise shoved his two friends back and shielded the nearby explosion. It wasn't enough to drastically hurt him but Tavise felt warmth go through his body and his shields go down. His damaged helmet was doing more harm then help causing the Heretic to throw it off.
"You two, go! We only have a little over a minute left. This is my time, NOT YOURS!" He yelled. Rakath raised a hand but Tavise swatted it causing the man to growl. Though Legra understood and calmed Rakath as he pulled him into the drop pod.
"It seems I have taught you well, put others before yourself when you know your whole cause is futile... My student." The Zealot implied to Tavise. At first the Heretic was confused before he realized, this was the man who taught him to fight. His old mentor. He heard the drop pod launch but it was ignored as he strode forward. The Special Operations soldier was silent as he prepared his energy sword. Less then a minute was left before the Zealot spoke again.
"I saw what your team had done to this ship. It seems to be irreversible, though it was stalled by me for another three minutes, enough time that I could escape." The old Covenant soldiers said, unsheathing his own energy sword. Tavise ran, anger coursing through his head but he fell down as the other man kicked him in the shoulder. The Zealot's sword came down but Tavise rolled and sprang back up, cutting the old man across the chest. The Zealot swung a few times but missed before Tavise grabbed his face and threw the man into the wall putting all strength into his left arm.
It was no longer anger... it was pure adrenaline made of all the hate in the world as Tavise neared his old mentor. This time the Heretic's sword came down to the Zealots neck but didn't slice. He paused remembering what this made had done for him... and what he had done to him. Raising himself on the Covenant's back Tavise ran his sword through the man's neck and down his back. Not a scream was heard as Tavise did this horrid act, without expression on his face. He heard distant explosions, but he knew none of it mattered anymore. Somehow with his impending death... he was happy. He hoped he would be remembered, not as the crazy fool who got himself killed, but as the man who knew what had to be done.
Orange blinded Tavise as pain went through his body, all of it was ignored by blackness and an odd happiness. He was still alive though, and using his remaining strength launched a drop pod. In the last few seconds of his life, Tavise jumped out into the vacuum of space, explosions heard behind him. The Heretic was happy to be who he was. He would not die in the Covenant ship, never, he would die in space. Space where none could survive, but all could thrive. He was overcame as his eyes drifted to a close. His body was destroyed by the explosion but his soul was kept intact as he drifted through space, thinking of his friends and his, meaningful life.
