Old-school fantasy RPG interest check

Hey all! I'm always thinking of ideas that might be fun for a story or RP, and for the longest time I've wanted to make an original fantasy one with you guys. I'm getting my thoughts collected and have decided to attempt one in the near(ish) future. Anyone interested in taking part? Here's some info:

- I'll be looking for a small party (around 3 people or so, 5 max)

- First come is not first serve. For this first attempt I want only the people who I think will be the most active and dedicated. If you're not willing to see it through to the end, don't apply. I estimate that the RP will take quite a few weeks to complete, just so you know.

- By "old school" RPG, I mean kinda D&Dish. It will have rules that are much different from the Main RP or anything else I've seen done here, including GMed, stat-driven gameplay and "dice rolls" that determine outcomes. (No actual dice or math required. I will handle all the calculations myself so players only have to focus on writing posts). I'll also have "accomplishments" (similar to xbox achievements) that you can perform to unlock cool stuff. And finally, to help flesh out the world we create, I will also make custom artwork and compile a "soundtrack" (aka linked youtube music vids) all for the RP.

- Specific plot, at this point, is almost non-existent though. So this RP will not be released for a while yet, possibly not for weeks. So in the meantime, I would love it if people could offer ideas for cool events/concepts/plot ideas they'd like to see in the RP (even if you don't plan on participating!) Any little bit helps!

So hey, about that last bit, the one about suggestions... What do you think? Remember, I want to make a totally original story, original world. I have some ideas, but I also want to work into it stuff you guys want, too. I know we have a lot of creativity on this site, so if you think of anything, let me know. What kind of characters and personalities might you want to play? What kind of settings? What kind of cultures or societies exist? What kind of monsters would be fun to fight (or run in terror from)? And what kind of conflict or event would the plot revolve around?

Stuff like this is what I need to determine in order to get this started. It's very open to suggestion at the moment, I can go a lot of different ways. So once I hear more of what you guys want, I can narrow things down and get to work.

Idea Maybe we could have a middle eastern style of RP were we have a large ruling empire kind of like the Muslim empire? A large desert expanse with a capitol that has all sorts of cultures in it. It would be the super power of the era. With this idea we have a base style AND we can have other styles of people in it as well.

Character races: Typical PHB races would be a good starting point (Humans, Gnomes, Dwarves, Elves, etc.), although it's always fun to have a "monster" PC (especially a treant-like thing who was a monk and took a vow of silence, and there was only one other guy in the party who "spoke" sign language).

Classes: Hmm...I'm not sure what to do with this one. Although I did find some fun classes while looking at homebrew D&D stuff:

Monsters: Dragons are always fun to run away from, then bash their skulls in once you get to sufficiently higher level. It's also fun to have a a 7 Nymph ambush party waiting around the bend in the road when the PC's have crap Fortitude scores. The Cthulhu Mythos are good, as well. Settings: I always enjoyed (for example) the Ebberon, World of Warcraft, and Dark Sun campaign settings. Doing a modern setting would be fun, as well. I do that in another forum; it's quite fun to be able to gun down Magi with an Uzi, or equip a Werewolf with a nanosuit and watch the magic.

Good stuff 999! It fuels the imagination, although I haven't yet decided quite how classes will work. That will probably fall into place when the world is more established. And speaking of which...

I'm actually quite fond of this idea, Tin. Desert/Middle Eastern settings are a favorite of mine, but again, I want to go with something everybody wants. For future reference, this is gonna be a medieval times kinda setting. Modern fantasy is cool too, but that'll have to wait for another RP. We've got the scifi-ness of Halo from the Main Mission every day, so I want this RP to be totally different.

By the way, just.curious, what kind of characters would you guys personally want to play as?

I usualy play as a monk honestly though i am decent at a human fighter

Well, if we don't count homebrew stuff, I prefer my races to be: Drow (especially the Drow Nobles from Pathfinder), Tiefling/Aasimar, or a WoW race (e.g. Night/High/Blood Elves, Naga, or Forsaken. And yes, there are World of Warcraft RPG books.)

For classes, I gravitate towards magic and "rogue" classes (the Demon Hunter in the WoWRPG is one of my favorite prestige classes, since it combines Arcane magic, subtlety, and combat skills). Although at times, I do enjoy having a massive brute dishing out damage with a large weapon; I turn to the Death Knight (WoW RPG) or the Stalwart Defender (Pathfinder, not sure if that's the right name) for that.

I also have a special fondness for the Book of Exalted Deeds and the Book of Vile Darkness as well.

Also, the Dark Sun campaign setting is an excellent source of inspiration for a desert setting.

If we go by the D&D setting, i would like to play as a Dragonborn, or if able to have homebrewed races, a lionman. That would be something. I always enjoyed a bestial warrior.

Generally, I play either deadpan snarker fire mages, or hippie elf archer girls.

At this point here's what I'm thinking... I've decided there will not be defined "classes" because I don't want to box anyone into a specific play style. This means your characters will be defined purely by attributes and abilities, allowing you to basically be any class you can think of. Also, for now at least, I see no reason to limit racial options. So if you wanna be a lionman or drow or whatever else, you can.

With that, based on what you guys have posted so far I'd say we're looking at a pretty well-rounded party. Now all I really need is just a little more setting input. I'm gonna let you know right now that I've got mostly indoor scenes in mind, but that doesn't mean your adventures will be exclusively that way. There is room to work in multiple climates or cultural inspirations, so how about we discuss some of that stuff next.

By climate, are you talking about the mood/atmosphere of the RP or the environment/ecosystem/setting/thing?

Okay, so basically what I'm doing now is putting everything I've been contemplating for so long together. For past RPGs I would simply formulate most of the overall plot in my mind and just run with it. Not so here - this time I want to be hardcore about it and actually plan out every aspect of the RP beforehand. Map out all the areas with items and enemies, get key dialouge and quotes written up, finish development on my gameplay mechanics, ect... all that kinda stuff. This is the part that will take the longest, so please be patient as I get organized. The wait will be totally worth it, I promise! ;D

In the meantime, please please please keep sending any random thoughts, suggestions, questions, or requests my way. Anything at all, even just idle chat. It helps me think and keeps me encouraged to work hard. I'll try to provide status reports on my progress as I go so you guys can stay in the loop.

Remember, I'm accepting participants based on how dedicated and available I believe they will be, so nobody's place is fixed until the RP actually starts, which won't be for a while yet. Okay, as I started working I decided it would probably be beneficial if I knew the audience I'm catering to a little better. It doesn't do much good, for example, if I place a bunch of axes in treasure chests if nobody uses axe weapons, you know? So let's do this... Even if you already expressed interest in joining the RP (especially you guys, in fact), I want everybody who thinks they want to participate to fill out a little form, if you please.

Race - this can be any kind of race you can think of.
Role - even though we're not doing strict classes, you will probably still have some kind of theme or type of role your character falls under. Describe that here.
Description - here just give a general physical overview of what your character looks like. Doesn't have to be super detailed, as this isn't an official character sheet or anything. Doesn't even need a name. Just things like what kind of armor and equipment you plan on using, and any unique details you think would be relevant or useful for me to know.

Race - Half-Breed Demon
Role - Fighter
A fast and heavy hitter. Can't take many hits and attacks do less as the fight drags on. Most of his attacks require him to be at close range on the target. Is profiecient with one handed weapons and fist fights.
Description - Wears a light leather set of armor and a head band. He also carries an iron sword on his back. He is a set build and has red eyes. He has black hair and white skin. Has a slightly aggresive attitude. He is slightly above human strength do to his demon blood. His name is Ryujo.
