Private Jake Furrow Fireteam Alpha, Nova Squad |
Jake stood up when his name was called and looked around. No one else had stood up so apparently it had been his name. Hastily, Jake shook out his arms to relax them from the push-ups he had started before grabbing his rifle. It felt a bit lighter, that told him that he did the calisthenics right. Jake slipped his rifle across his back and quickly jogged over to the. Jake weaved through the troopers that were still doing work, a few staggered behind while others were just about done by the time he reached the front. Jake saluted quickly then stood at ease. He kept his helmet polarized to stay quiet, but that may be changed so he was ready to make his visor translucent. He shut off his COM, then quickly checked anything else that may give away the conversation that was about to occur. From the sound of his Lieutenant’s yelling, and the positioning of them being close together, it was probably serious. Thoughts of what it may be about raced through his mind, but his Lieutenants words straightened up his head. "What is that god damned thing on your wrist?"Jake pulled out his wrists and eyeballed them closely, quickly looking for something abnormal. He twisted and turned his arms, looking at several different angles for any breaks in his armor. Seeing none, he looked up at his Lieutenant and shrugged. The thought of the Jackal gauntlet popped into his mind, that was probably what his Officer meant. Jake wanted to keep it to himself, but seeing as he was probably caught behind the boulders, there was no hiding it. Jake pointed to his pack, and nodded to it, trying to direct the attention to his bag. “PDG in tow.” Jake mumbled, barely able to hear his own words.

Lieutenant Jakob Zaborowski |
Jakob was about to speak when Aborn walked up. "God damn-it kid I am gonna report you to the damned Spook! Yelled Aborn so only they could hear. A few eyes wandered up while doing the exercise. Aborn began t walk off until Jakob grabbed his pack, pulling him to them, "Aborn, let him go, I don't want ONI getting rid of any of our guys, especially yours, I thought you knew that John, the platoon comes first." The Sergeant was shocked, no one, even Jakob, called him by his first name, let alone in front of his men, it was a obvious way of offense and he was about to protest until he realized the El Tee was right. His shoulders slumped a little and he looked down, he quickly looked back up and nodded, realizing that it was a sign of weakness. Jakob turned to the Private, "Keep it hidden kid, I don't want the spook getting rid of my finest, but there is punishment." Jakob turned to the ODST's, a few had gotten up again, finished, "I WANT ONE HUNDRED MORE ON THE DOUBLE! Courtesy of the Private!" He heard moans and then yelled again, "DID I SAY COMPLAIN? DON'T MAKE ME DOUBLE THAT!" He patted Jake on the back, then un-polarized his visor, something he normally didn't do, "Move it kid ON THE DOUBLE!"

Jake stiffened at the sound of his Sergeants voice, shaking a little bit before relaxing. He didn’t care if the spooks knew or not, but the thought of getting in trouble for it certainly put a chill down his spine. Maybe it would be a better idea not to use it later, as a last resort possibly, but not out in the open. He looked at his bag away from the angry Sergeant towards his back where the gauntlet lay, hidden of course, thinking of when it would be time for a last resort. As the Sergeant began to walk away, Jake looked back to them, still thinking quietly to himself. The air around him had stilled and the voices were slightly muted. He could understand the bickering between his Lieutenant and his Sergeant just enough to catch that he had a Hundred push-ups to do now. How nice, he had just done 30, now he has to tag on another set. If life on the god-forsaken planet couldn’t get any worse. Jake jogged back into formation and looked at the dirt. He disliked the black ground, it was to hot and to annoying to walk on, let alone lay on it. He knelt down onto his knees, slightly flinching at the heat but he had no choice, just a stupid order. They were wasting energy doing these, they would need it all later for the real fight. With a glance to his Sergeant, and a fall to his hands, Jake did his push-ups lazily and at his own pace. He would need his energy to keep his rifle steady and enough to live through the infiltration of the ship.

The anticipation waned as the pack slowly realized that the attack wasn't going to come anytime soon. Irbinus excused himself and wandered the corridors for a short while before happening across a trio of Unggoy strutting pompously about the command center, singing loudly in their squeaky voices. Contempt and anger boiled up in the Jiralhanae's gut and he darted forward, grasping the closest around its semi-nonexistent neck and lifting the squat creature high in the air. The Grunt's companions froze in fear of the beast towering over them, and the singing ceased.
"Have the courage to look me in the eye, Grunt!" hissed Irbinus as his captive attempted to turn its head to see the other two. "Pu' me down!" ordered the gas-sucker, struggling vainly in the Brute's iron grip, which only tightened. "Have some respect for your betters," advised Irbinus in a frosty tone, scowling at the gaping Unggoy. To accentuate his point the Minor jerked his head in the direction of the command center, before savagely tossing the creature into the midst of his brethren before stalking off.

Olarmi laughed as Irbinus walked away "The beast is right, for a real warrior is standing before you now!" He sais with a smile as his Unngoy squad fills the room.
They stared at the other Unggoy with distaste , holding their head's high only because Olarmi was there. Olarmi laughed as he turned to leave. with a quick twich of his wrist his Unggoy turned and followed him out to the corridor.

Irbinus froze as the Sangheili's voice rang throughout the corridor, and he turned to toss back an insult to the arrogant Major. "Keep thinking that, Sangheili," he called casually, "you'll fall out of your lordly position." The Jiralhanae didn't know or care if the Major had heard him, and he continued on his way, ducking through a door a moment before it locked.
All about Irbinus were the signs of a coming storm: Unggoy scurrying about on one errand or another, Yanme'e swooping low through the network of corridors, and Sangheili and Kig-Yar warriors dashing in the direction of the grav-lift. He wasn't happy about his race's failure below the Pious Charity, knowing that for it they would fall further out of favor. Those Jiralhanae who had remained on board were all determined to win back some honor repelling the assault that was surely to come.
The Minor turned a corner and found himself in one of the primary corridors that ran for the length of the ship. A continuous stream of Unggoy and Kig-Yar moved along in both directions, with the odd Sangheili or Jiralhanae, and Irbinus slipped into the crowd and let himself be carried back to his pack.
