Keep in mind all that official/approved characters are not needed but can be used if you wish. Slightly inspired by Kills old Isolated thread and running around in Far Cry 4 Valley of the Yetis.

My character:
Ren - Ruutian Scavenger - Sail Blade Crewman
Sail Sector main base, morning, -22 C
Cram before the work day.
Seated in the mess on the lovely warm Sail Blade Ren was idly prodding at his PP as he shoveled the hot meat based soup into his beak. Occasionally tearing off some bread and dipping it on the soup as he read over some reports from the Captain. Apparently one of the other teams had found an intact Covenant armory yesterday and there was a very strongly worded warning from Mistress Punm that if the half of the weapons that were missing wasn't returned by tomorrow night there would be trouble. Makes sense, then would be the weekly Human review of the weeks work, and that much going missing would put Punm's position in jeopardy. Annnnd, scrolling down some more, there would be a reward for those who found the thieves were and brought them to her.
"Bet it was that salvage team, probably ran and tried to make it to Blood's zone to make themselves rich and heroes."
Ren just rolled his eyes as he motion to his PP before finishing what he had stuffed in his beak. "You didn't read the rest of the report did you? Just tuned out right after the reward was mentioned eh Tac?" The Ibie'Shan narrowed his eyes and hissed a bit before grumbly asking what the rest of it said. "That team is currently held in the brig and are being questioned by the Mistress probably now, they adamantly maintain that when they were transporting the crates back some of them just went missing. Either fell off and they were too drunk to see it or something managed to sneak off with them."
"Huh...where did they come back along?" Tac asked, looking upbeat again as the thought of that reward was brought back into his mind again. Typical. But it was endearing in a way.
"Near, not on, but NEAR our route. Just keep an eye out and maybe we'l get lucky."
"Lucky is one word for it, all of our team could afford a vacation with the reward for that, or just selling the weapons for probably more."
"Hey if you want to loose your tongue and fingers thats on you. I'll be returning them if we find them."
Tac just rolled his eyes and went back to eating as did Ren. The table where their team was seated soon falling quiet besides the sound of eating as they were given a five minute warning from their T'vaoan leader. The featherhead already getting his heavier gear on as the remainder of the twenty strong team worked on finishing their breakfast.
There was also a collective groan from the group when Oiln informed his team that there would have extra guards today in case the weapons were found. To make sure it got back safely and that there was no additional theft on top of the theft of them to begin with.
The mess was majorly Kiggle, as it was their ship, but some of the Humans from their administrative office were also at their own table near the stairs. The mess kept nice and clean on the demands of Mistress Punm to make a good impression on their Human overseers and didn't even small that bad. Though it seemed to Ren like there was one or two more than normal down here with them.
(Hope that works for everyone, I'll try to answer any questions you have in a PM. Feel free to be in the Sail vessel or around it so there can be some interaction soon Or you could always try to be a Raider - they are fun.)
Basic backstory:
This thread will be taking place about fifteen years after Wars End - for the sake of it I'm going to say that Halo 4-6 haven't happened so no Promethian and huge Guardian robots running about to cause complications. Instead the UNSC and Humans fully emerged as the new Galactic Power and while they aren't going around murdering as the Covenant did they are starting to look like the same ominous presence that is making sure 'order' is maintained.
Onto the setting, the thread will be taking place on and around the planet of Swoth (yes Star Wars (H)oth, was a nice simple name). This somewhat small planet was the scene of a large infantry and naval battle of the war. And the carcasses of ships, vehicles, and bodies still litter its surface. The only problem with the salvage and cashing in of these wreckages is the fact that the planet is entirely covered in water. That is frozen. Except for a few very sparse volcanic pockets the entire surface of the planet is just ice, with a huge amount of snow over that. Several of the ships that crashed down buried very deep into the surface. The normal temperature during the day is a balmy -20 degrees C and dips to -70 C during the night. Thankfully the night is only three hours long so this lethal low doesn't last very long. Snowstorms are surprisingly rare as its often just a steady slow snowfall. There are some animals that hide in caves, crashed ships, and under the snow. Lethal to be sure but the largest found up till now has been likened by many as a 'large snow Demon' like the ones during the war. Thankfully it is rare. And several Kig-Yar make their living not cutting apart and open wrecks but hunting the smaller fox and big cat animals and selling their rare fur and meat.
Around twelve years after wars end the Kig-Yar returned to this planet first, its semi remote location and inhospitable surface making it perfect for salvaging and scavenging for wealth without being scene. Over the next three years they set up several bases on the surface. In standard Kig-Yar fashion most of these were just some of the larger ships landing on the surface as bastions of heat and food in the wastelands of snow. Each of these lay claim to a certain area that are respected by the other captains but not necessarily the workers and there have been thefts. Often swiftly dealt with when discovered. There are currently eight main zones; Sail, Blood, Keel, Strike, Blade, Razor, Wake, and Tide- named after the Kig-Yar ships that are parked in them.
Two years later a few Unggoy and Yanme'e were brought in to help with technical work for the Yanme'e on the ships and for ground work for the Unggoy. They are treated well and most have become full members of the crews they work with.
And then the UNSC arrived. They were not happy to see Kig-Yar 'Criminals' salvaging the remains of noble UNSC vessels and attempting to steal Covenant technology for themselves and so stepped in to 'Supervise'. The space battle was a walkover for the superior UNSC as the few Kig-Yar ships in orbit quickly gave up to the larger force with only damages and no destroyed vessels. Since then the UNSC has establishes a blockade around the planet, keeping tabs on everyone coming and going. Checking each load when they have cause too and to take anything they deem as dangerous. Most of the Kig-Yar and other aliens didn't see this as too different as they are still paid for bringing back good items. The Captains however are furious as all the lovely tech they had hoped to get for themselves is now being turned over to the UNSC. And there are whispers of a plan to drive the UNSC out. Until that point however the UNSC maintain a heavy presence in space to keep ships from leaving without checks and an office in each main ship/base to handle complaints and other issues that may arise. Some of them are actually good friends with the Kigs down there and often head to the Cantina for drinks after work with some of the Kig-Yar. Not everyone hates each other, but hate and distrust and possible murder for sure are around.
There are also, of course, pirates and raiders between the ship zones. Ones either cast out or quitters from the crews, eager to exact revenge and selling to their own Human contacts at the expense of their former allies. Most of them are Kig-Yar but there are reports of Unggoy, Human, and Yanme'e with them - though it is hard to confirm.
Jiralhanae and Sangheili have also started to arrive lately, one of them welcomed by the Humans and the other more so begrudging allowed, to try their hands at finding a goldmine in the snow. There are rumors that some immediately flocked to join the raiders for 'fun'.

My character:
Name: Ren.
Species: Ruutian.
Gender: Male.
Age: 23
Appearance/gear:
As a scavenger Ren doesn't carry much armor or weaponry to help him survive in a fight. They have guards paid for that. Instead he often carries tools and places to hold nice stuff he finds. Over the thick jacket he wears a vest that has several places to hold tools and a mounting point for a backpack to hold things he finds and his field meal. Tools often take the form of a pry bar, a small cutting torch, a multitool, and various tools he may have brought on the day. His PP filling the place of a camera to send back images of possible finds. Thick pants and boots under that with a belt with many pouches as well. But hes still a Kig and so does carry at least one weapon on him. On his right thigh he has an old Plasma Pistol, painted bright orange to signify his crew and used so he doesn't have to carry a lot of ammo, and then a knife next to it. On his other thigh he has a small radio that has its cord under his jacket up to his head. The jacket bright orange with brown sleeves as well as a white fluffeh hood edge, then his pants are dull blue, and finally black boots.
He keeps his head spines short so his coat hood can be worn over his head and keep his head warm but they are dull orange to match his yellow skin. His eyes are however an oddity as they are green - he isn't sure why as his parents never really mentioned it. Over his eyes he often wears goggles to help keep his eyes a bit warmer and to protect them from the occasional stinging wind. They are just simple goggles however and unlike some Mev-Ut hunters they don't have any fancy tech in them. Thankfully the nights are short so he doesn't need a night vision setting. And since he has a big ol schnoz in the form of a beak he keeps that covered with what Humans would call a scarf wrapped around it. Under his hood with a led into the scarf would be the headset that keeps him connected to the Captain of his salvage team and lets him report if he finds anything.
Hes also generally in possession of a walking pole (Ski pole) to help him keep traction in the thick snow when trudging too and from the former Covenant ship that his team is currently working on salvaging.
History:
A simple kid born n raised on a ship. He barely understood the massive party they had when he was eight and the war ended but as he grew to appreciate that it was over. And the world was open to him! That is until he and his family was dropped down to a frozen hell and he was made into a salvage hog. Yay. He hopes fervently that one day he can be doing something better with his life.
