Velara booted up the recording, frantically pacing back and forth. Her head was freshly bruised, a line of blood trickling from her forehead. Tears welled in her eyes, running down her cheeks and dripping on her attire. She appeared to be hyperventilating and deathly terrified. After a few minutes of slow breathing and attempts to calm herself, she finally spoke up.
"N-November 5th, 2552: Things have gotten worse. A lot worse. Far beyond "out of control". We questioned the A.I., asked about the facility and what was beyond that door. Asked about the possibility of a Flood outbreak. Thing didn't know what the Flood was. Said the facility was constructed by his masters. Called them "Erai". I was correct! These ruins weren't constructed by Forerunners, they were constructed by a new undocumented sentient species! It didn't have time to answer our question about what was beyond the door. The door was breached. Our detainee snuck off and somehow unlocked the door. We reviewed the footage..."
Velara began to choke on her words. Her voice were lost for a few moments before she regained her composure.
"T-they... slaughtered him. Whatever they were. They had weaponry that appeared organic and it seemingly paralyzed him. Afterwards they started dragging him into the room and they... a-and they began ripping him apart. From what limited view we could see from, there were many different types, almost as if they were different castes all part of one huge hive. I can't even begin to describe them. Organic husks? It was just so terrifying. and then the voices! She wouldn't stop speaking! We don't know who it is, but we can all hear her. She causes the constant pain and headaches. Probes our minds. Our thoughts. She drove one of the scientists insane, caused him to commit suicide. I'll never forget that gunshot, how the noise cut through the quiet and echoed across the place. Whoever 'she' is, she has to be one of those... things."
She sobbed and sobbed, her seemingly random nightmares over the past few nights having come true.
"We called the Black Cat and rendezvoused outside on the landing pad, only to watch it get cut down. A beam of greenish light, and the left wing was clipped, melted off. We had just enough time to watch the boiling and burning wreckage fall into the ocean. We decided to run back inside and regroup at the base camp. I don't know what we're doing next. I'm setting off a distress beacon and praying for rescue. This may be the last video log I make, as I'm certainly postponing them until further notice."
Off-screen, one of the scientists approached Velara. "Blaire, come on. We've gotta find a place to hide before these things kill us! I only hope the rescue team brings enough firepower." He said in a rather panicked voice.
Velara nodded, and looked back at the recording one final time.
"God help us all." She said, as she turned off the recording.
