Oddball Tales is a side project and an attempt to harness the strange and truly bizarre aspects of the Halo Universe. The stories won’t truly follow a proven pattern, but will delve into the depths of what we know. Anyone that wants to contribute a story, regardless of length is welcome. The official requirements to these stories will only be that the stories include after the title the Introduction Template or Narrative Opening.

Do note, Oddball Tales RP takes place in an alternate telling and any events taking place within the Oddball Tales RP take place in that same alternate reality. Your Halo characters in the "Prime" reality of the Halo Universe follow events as they happen in the Halo Universe and on the site. Anything that happens to those characters, or any characters within the Oddball Tales RP happen in that alternate reality.

The Oddball Tales RP will a mix of what is provided by Tento125's Setting along with elements of the Halo Universe here on the site. As far as Tento125's Setting goes, the year within that setting is between 2011 - 2026 in Los Angeles.

Here’s the Introduction Template:

For twenty-five years, humanity in the form of the United Earth Government and the United Nations Space Command have waged what some would consider a pointless and futile war against the alien coalition of the Covenant on untold fronts. The fields on untold worlds have been witness to valiant stands of both human and alien origin. Left to silently weep for those, whose voices echo across time. And stand as caretakers to those that may not rise again. Dire as it has been, this war carries yet only through one reality. What if there were others?

The Template listed below is actually a continuation of the Introduction Template/Narrative Opening, but it should include the theme of the story, the planet/colony world if applicable, characters or units involved, the year it takes place and while the date…specifically the month isn’t particularly necessary it can be added if needed.

With permission from Cabel, I'm going to outline major events following those showcased in the movie Battle: LA up to 2015.

November 5 2011:

 US declares Los Angeles secure. Marines mop up whats left of the aliens outside of the city. First civilians return and reconstruction begins.

March 2 2012:

 Meteor like objects crash into the ocean off the Californian coast. The aliens brought reinforcements. Civilians evacuated whilst the marines take up defensive positions.

March 17 2012:

 Iceland succumbs to the alien invasion. Marines are forced to retreat from LA. Countries across the globe readies for war.

May 5 2012:

 Shanghai falls. Beijing says it has everything under control. Yeah right. British and Irish troops engage aliens in Dublin. Japan starts to evacuate Tokyo.

July 4 2012:

 Ireland is conquered. Britain prepares its defences. Aliens appear in Seattle. Not a good way to celebrate independance day.

July 27 2012:

 Russia declares that "we will not take one step back from these terrorists". Guess Ivan is fighting someone else other than the aliens. Hundreds more meteors strike the earth. Sicily falls.

August 1 2012:

 France, Italy and Spain launches a joint invasion to retake Sicily. China does the same on Shanghai. The US army launches a counter offensive to "drive the bastards into the sea" in Washington. The marines are busy retreating so it seems.

October 4 2012:

 Sicily campaign failed. Human forces evacuate. The Shanghai one suffered similar results. At least the US retook Seattle. US marines set up defenses in the Rockies. The National Gaurd follows suit.

October 31 2012:

 A large artificial object can be seen over earth's orbit: the alien mothership is here for trick or treating.

November 14 2012:

 Britain invaded. US forces evacuates Washington state. California is over runned. Hurricane Bane (fictional) makes land fall in New Orleans. Millions become homeless, US unable to send aid. Why I wonder......

December 15 2012:

 Rockies defences completed. Britain retreats north. Mexico is invaded. At least that solves the drug problems.

February 16 2013:

 Last human orbital satellite destroyed. Global communications ceased to exist.

(From this point on, I'll be focusing entirely on the US)

April 6 2013:

 Aliens established a F.O.B in LA. Marines launches an assault on it. Florida is invaded by the aliens.

April 12 2013:

 Assault on alien F.O.B. fails. Miami falls but the aliens are contained by the army and national gaurd.

April 17 2013:

 Aliens launch full scale assault on the Rockies. US forces held. First major victory since the retaking of Seattle.

May 2 2013:

 US reinforces the Rockies. Aliens tries to break through the Florida line but fails. Another US victory. Army counter attacks.

May 25 2013:

 Word arrives that Russia invaded Alaska. Nothing the US can do about it since the aliens assaulted the Rockies again. The marines held their ground but with severe casualties. Florida attack faulters and was called off.

July 7 2013:

 Word arrives that North Korea invaded the south. US navy is dispatched along with a marine MEU to assist the south. Pearl harbour is bombed by the aliens soon after.

July 19 2013:

 Aliens broke through the Florida line. The National Gaurd establishes a second one. Close call.

August 12 2013:

 Meteors rain down on mainland USA. Combines efforts of local police, National Gaurdsmen, marines and army soldiers made sure that these landing zones remained isolated. They were quickly taken care of.

August 30 2013:

 Nukes were launched world wide against the alien mothership in orbit. Mothership is destroyed at the cost of every single human nuclear missles. No word yet from the task force sent to the Korean peninsular.

September 24 2013:

 Canada asks for American military aid. Aliens have moved up north from Washington state to invade. US army responds by launching an attack to retake the state, hopefully catching the aliens off gaurd.

October 9 2013:

 Another mothership appears in orbit. US begins research on space capable fighter planes and weapons. Army offensive fails and forced to retreat back to the Rockies. Canada will have to fend for itself.

November 13 2013:

 Aliens launch an attack on the Rockies and managed to break through.

November 17 2013:

 US reinforcements seals the breach. Alien forces to the east are surrounded and destroyed. That could have gotten nasty.

December 25 2013:

 A sophisticated anti air defense system nick named "Iron-Dome" is first installed in Chicago. A Christmas present to Chicagoans. 

February 2014:

 Aliens breached the Florida line. US reinforcements sealed the breach quickly and aliens behind the US lines are quickly taken care of. This is going to be a long bloody war.

March 16 2014:

 Aliens launch a massive air assault on major US cities. The Iron domes worked its magic. Those cities that do not have it installed were burnt down. Meteors continue to rain down in groups of dozens across mainland USA. The National Guard is having a hard time containing them.

March 17 2014:

 Aliens launch a massive attack all along the front. The Florida line has been breached, this time permanently, but the Rockies held..... barely.

June 2014:

 US launches a counter attack to retake Florida. Marines landed in Miami and retook the city. The army presses its assault from the North. The US Air Force works its magic in the air. Things are going smoothly.

August 24 2014:

 Florida declared secure. Major US victory. D.C. makes preparations to retake the west coast.

September 31 2014:

 Aliens launch a massive attack on the Rockies. The US is temporarily pushed back. This is going to be tough.

October 12 2014:

 US retook lost positions on the Rockies. The Iron-Dome defense system is installed in all remaining US cities. Things seems to be turning into the Yankee's favor. 

December 21 2014:

 US launches an all out invasion on the west coast. The president promises to "Liberate all of mainland USA before New Year's Eve". Big talk.

February 28 2015:

 West coast still not taken. President assures the public that the aliens will be eradicated from American soil. Still no word from the Korean expedition. No one has forgotten about them right?

April 22 2015:

 Alien reinforcements dropped down from orbit all along the west coast. US forces are forced to retreat.

May 12 2015:

 The attack on the west coast is called off. All remaining US forces west of the Rockies are retreating east. Oh well.

June 16 2015:

 Aliens landed in Florida and retook the state. US forces were quick to establish a line of defense. Dejavu anyone??

July 7 2015:

 US Coast Guard is merged with the National Guard. This should increase man power by a bit.

August 19 2015:

 US forces launch counter attack in Florida. Aliens were caught completely by surprise. This should end well.

September 2 2015: 

 Florida Campaign going extremely well. The National Guard and the army had the aliens holed up in Miami. This shouldn't take long....

September 15 2015:

 New York City is bombed. Thanks to the Iron dome, the city suffered minimal damage. Army begins assault on Miami. "We have them now...."

October 7 2015:

 Alien reinforcements arrive in even more meteors. Many of them struck behind the US lines in Florida. Panic ensues.

October 17 2015: 

 All remaining US forces in Florida retreats. Those that had assaulted Miami are slaughtered. No American soul that entered the city got out alive. Crushing defeat for the Yanks.

November 13 2015:

 Florida line re-established. Mexican refugees swamps Texas. Word is Mexico city has fallen. US military deploys to the boarder. Still no word from the Korean expedition.

December 3 2015:

 Word from the Korean expedition finally arrives. North Korea was victorious. Kimmy now controls the entire peninsular. All US forces sent there are now P.O.W.s. Nothing can be done to help them get home.

February 16 2016:

 Aliens launch attack on Texas boarder. US lines barely held. Units from the Rockies were forced to redeploy. 

March 4 2016:

 Aliens make land fall in New York city. US military leaders panics. Capital is moved from D.C. to Chicago. Heavy fighting ensues in NYC. Marines redeploy from the Rockies.

March 27 2016:

 NYC falls. Aliens push south to D.C. The aliens also attacks the Rockies, Texas, and Florida. The US is now fighting on all fronts.

April 4 2016:

 Jacksonville, Philadelphia and Dallas are lost. Florida and Texas lines broken in multiple places. US retreats out of Florida and the aliens from Texas swung west and heads to the Rockies, but are stopped by Marines at Odessa, Van horn and Midland. The Rockies defense line stays in tact..... for now. US receives unexpected, but welcome, reinforcements.

Took part in Operation Iraqi Freedom and battle of Fallujah. Received injury due to a road side improvised explosive device that left him in a hospital for the better part of 2 years and a scar in the forehead. 

Promoted to Major: 2005

War-Time Record:

First battle of Los Angeles (2011-2012):

Initially took command of a marine company to evacuate civilians stuck in major civilian districts. After the alien's drone command ship got knocked out, he took command of another company to secure the Northern side of the city before alien reinforcements landed and was forced to pull back.

Defence of the Rockies: (2012-onward)

With the battle of LA lost, the then Major Conner decided to pull back to the Rockies, which is deemed the most defensible place on the west coast. However, it took him another 6 months when he was finally promoted to Lieutenant Colonel for him to be able to convince his superiors to follow through with his plan. 

However, many of his colleagues wanted to take the fight to the enemy, Lieutenant General Patterson in particular. The General had urged for a push to retake LA ever since the marines were forced to pull out. Conner disagreed. He argued that the marines were too few in number and ill prepared to mount an offensive on that scale. The Lt. Col's words fell onto deaf ears as word arrives that the Army is mounting its own counter offensive to the North in Washington.

Despite plees from Conner, the order was given by the General himself; Brigadier General Halberd was to push through the centre and make a beeline for the city, while Conner was to advance to the south, protecting the General's flank. The northern flank was entrusted to the National Guard.

Ultimately, the attack failed and the remaining marines were forced to retreat, the Army suffering similar results. For most of the time, Conner would focus on fortifying the Rockies into an impenetrable fortress while his colleagues and superiors would urge on for a glorious counter attack. When word arrived that a Marine MEU was to be sent to Korea in 2013 to aid the south, Conner openly disagreed, saying that they need every man available JUST to hold the line. Again, his words fell on deaf ears.

By the end of 2015, the rockies had turned into the impenetrable fortress Conner envisioned it to be. Bunkers and trenches line the entire mountain range. Pre ranged artillery are positioned in weak points, ready to provide firing support to the defenders. And quick response teams were ready round the clock.

Due to the success of the Rockies defense in repelling alien attack after attack, Conner was prematurely promoted to full Colonel in March 2nd 2016, and was transferred to second-in-command of the 2nd Marine Division. However, in April 4, the Aliens managed to break through the Texas lines and over ran Dallas, where the Division HQ was at.

Conner at the time, was busy personally inspecting the western flanks when the aliens took Dallas, thus he was saved. The rest of the HQ however, was not. Brigadier General Bryan Johnson, the CO of the 2nd marine division at the time, was among the casualties. Conner, being the 2nd-in-command, took up the vacant seat of divisional command and took control of the situation. He managed to post marines in Odessa, Van horn and Midland, expecting the aliens to sweep north west to try and attack the Rockies position to the rear. His hindsight might have just saved the entire country from falling into the hands of the aliens.....at least for now.

History: Jacob was born in 1994 in Chicago, he grew up in a small apartment with his working mother. His father was a marine but was killed in action shortly after Jacob was born. Jacob grew up getting the average of straight Bs. He continued through to high school which was fairly uneventful save for a few fights. He graduated high school after the first mothership appeared and joined the marines, after much protest from his mother. He served for several years in the Rockies, holding the line, he was recently transferred to the 2nd Marine Division after Mexico fell, where he is serving to this day.

Somewhere during his trips between the Inner and Outer Colonies within UNSC territory, his brown hair had turned gray and though the men in his family weren’t known for sporting gray hairs until their mid-sixties at least Mark had spent more than a few months in cryo-stasis. A little over a decade of shouting at the tops of his lungs to “motivate” green recruits in Basic Training had left his voice ragged and as one of his more recent squad mates called it “like an MA5C’s burp with the clarity of a com-link flipping out.” Regardless of the colorful descriptions, Mark could cause a green recruit or anyone for that matter to drop to the deck and give him twenty or dig a one-point-six kilometer long trench with only the sound of his voice. He’d never been an extremely tall man, never reaching his goal of two meters in height or at least a little beyond one-point-eight meters in height and could intimidate even hard-liner marines. A scar from an old auto-accident crossed from behind his left ear to his chin, and a tattoo of the UNSC’s Eagle with outstretched wings with talons gripping the Earth had been carved into his left shoulder.
