Mission One: Sinking Ship
I've got a simple one here ladies, so buckle up. It's time for your first mission.
This mission is a cookie cutter. Clean, clear, simple, and your job is to roll out the finished product sooner rather than later. I don’t expect perfection but the red pen will be handy for this one, ladies, so pucker up. Your mission is easy. Your objective is to create and develop two characters; one villain, and one protagonist.
* Your villain must be lean, mean, and a killing machine. No need for background murders or suspense. I want him to be up-close, personal, and in your face. The villain does not have to be a person. It can be a group of people or an entire race. However, it cannot be either one. If your villain is a new race, it must engage your protagonist ground side. No space here and no strange planets. Your planet is Earth. Pick a place, stick with it.
* Your protagonist must fit a few requirements: he must be knowledgeable in killing and he must be a team player. No soloists here. He must be a part of a group, squad, or force but he cannot be the leader. He is the underdog in your team, the one who is looked down upon the most and the least useful. Just because he knows how to kill doesn’t mean he can do it well. Exploit this in your writing and when he faces the villain. This will be your key to success.
* Through your story, you must have the protagonist face the villain at least four times. You may have them come face to face as many times as you wish, but four is the minimum. In the first three meetings, the protagonist must lose a team member and must also lose the fight. How he handles the loss is up to you. Should you choose to have the two meet more than four times, then he must continue to lose a team member in every meeting until the finale.
* Your villain must seem flawless through every meeting until the finale. There must be no chinks in the armor and no “ah-ha!” moments. Your protagonist is essentially facing an unstoppable force and is slowly losing his friends. Reflect this in his personality for bonus points.
* In the final conflict, three things must occur. The entire team remaining with your protagonist must be eliminated, leaving your protagonist by themselves. Your protagonist must struggle. And finally, your protagonist must reach a point of enlightenment when he realizes that he cannot win. At this point, he has a choice to make. Present him with your own decision of some sort.
* Kill your protagonist.
* How you conclude the story after this must not be dramatic, but deadpan. It must be void of feeling. In doing this, you inspire a feeling of hopelessness in your reader. The villain has won, there will be no morning light. That is what you want to get with this. You don’t want to inspire anger, hate, or make your reader go “he should have done this” or “that villain was dumb”, because you’ll probably get that anyways after a few moments. But right away, right at the very last word, you want your reader to stare at what you’ve made, breathless.
* You have as many attempts as you wish to try and succeed and I will critique your story upon submission should you wish it to be inked with red. I will also provide suggestions if you wish for any, however if I give you a suggestion about something specific, you cannot use it. So if you ask whether or not you should use an alien species with fur and I recommend one with scales, you cannot use the one with scales but the fur is still okay. I will be using deception, but it’s all in good fun. Remember, these are here to make you think and wonder. So imagine.
* Your minimum word count is five-thousand words (5,000, 5k). There is no maximum. I would shoot for ten thousand words and six encounters. I would also pair my protagonist with eight other men so that two would be with him during the final conflict, making the fight a lot more tight-knit and focused. My villain would also be a group, but not an alien species. This suggestion is not off limits, but if you use it then I ask that you use some sort of funky twist. And no, romance is not suggested for this. Don’t bore me with your fantasy love stories. Not this time.
That is your mission. Should you accept, post below and PM me. from the moment I receive the PM, you will have two weeks to submit your story. No exceptions, no excuses. I look forward to your submissions. Good luck.
