I am Saber, an infamous being from ancient past that has come back to haunt your dreams. No, no I won't be deploying a renegade ODST, a group of three painfully precise ONI Agents, or a SPARTAN who was second to Linda in sniping skills. No, I'm back to deploy a challenge. The new mission is deployed and I have noticed that there are still a few familiar faces lurking about but that isn't exactly why I'm here. I'm here simply to deposit a challenge and see who is willing to take it. If no one does or just a small group of two or three, then that is fine. I don't loiter as much, as many may know, so it won't bother me much. But if you are thinking about taking my challenge then let us begin the briefing, shall we?
-Saber's Challenges-
My challenges are meant to inspire thought, make you work towards an objective in your writing with specific goals and resources in mind, and to help you work on your creative juices in ways you never thought you could. There are no winners, there are no top players, and there is no reward. There are simply those who pass, and those who fail. There will be a leaderboard posted up here and those who succeed will have their names listed for all to see. As each mission is released, a new leaderboard will be put up. Pass the mission, I will add your name. Some missions you may play until you win, some missions you only get limited chances so make sure you check. I am your judge, so don't expect any leniency. This is a challenge, after all.
The rules are simple. I will give you all of the information you need; genre, character names and potential information on the characters themselves, story objectives you must write towards and complete, potential word count requirements, and maybe even plot twists that you must include at some point in your story. These little bits will confine you and force you to sometimes think differently than you might have wanted a story to go and will force you to consider certain situations in your story. Thus, before you write, I suggest you plan. A good writer knows what they want to do and always has an endgoal in mind. They know what they want to include and what they want to happen, but the other details come with time.
If you do not follow the instructions I give you, if you fail to include an objective, or if you are found to be simply bullshitting it and I find that you just dropped the objective in to complete it, you will fail immediately. If you have three tries to complete the mission but bullshit the first on, you will fail all three. If you have an unlimited number of tries but bullshit on your third try, you will no longer be allowed to participate in the mission. I don't expect perfection, but I expect effort.
In order to participate in these challenges, simply find the mission thread you wish to attempt and post that you will be attempting to complete the mission. You must also send me a PM with the subject the Mission Name and Number. Upon doing so, I will note that you have a story in progress. If there is a time limit, I will also note the date and time you posted that you will be attempting the mission and you will be required to submit the story by the deadline using the same PM you initially contacted me with your intentions to participate. Should the date change on your post due to you deleting your post and posting again, you will be disqualified from that mission.
All submissions must be sent through the PM System. Once a time limit is reached or after I have received a handful of submissions to the mission, I will edit one of the posts on the page and will post up all stories which have succeeded in completing it. Most likely, I will put up two or three reserve posts just in case as to accommodate the character limit on the site.
For simplicities sake, here is a TL;DR that includes the main points.
- Saber is conducting a Challenge set of Word-based Missions.
- Complete objectives in your stories to be considered successful.
- Laziness, Failure to complete an objective, and failure to follow instructions will not get you a passing grade.
- Laziness in completing a mission will disqualify you from that mission permanently.
- In order to participate in a mission, you must both post your intent in the Forum Thread and send me a PM at relatively the same time.
- If you are found to be deleting and reposting your Intention Post in the thread, you will be disqualified from the mission.
- Submissions must be sent to me in the same PM you used to show your intentions. Any other form of submission will not be accepted.
- Successful completions will be posted into respective posts in the thread and those who pass will have their names added to the leaderboard.
And that is all. If you have any questions, feel free to post below or send me a Private Message with your questions. I am not around every day so if I do not respond immediately, that is why. I intend to put some more attention to this site if there are enough participants, however, so don't worry about me dropping off and vanishing again. If enough people are interested, this will become a reality. With that being said, if you wish to participate in future missions or are interested in this at all, post below in the thread stating such. If you wish to keep your activity a secret until the first mission, then feel free to PM me letting me know that you are interested. All members are allowed to participate in these missions, whether you have a character or not.
