Assault on New Jericho

[Washington]

The planet of New Jericho, a relatively developed human colony with a population of about 2 million. New Jericho is located just on the outskirts of the Inner Colonies of the humans and has been a relatively peaceful and agricultural place. UNSC began to develop a minor outpost there that was used to train new Marines and defend the planet. Two UNSC ships, the Frigate Challenger and the Destroyer Hope is Near orbited the planet as mainly a means of transportation of troops and vehicles to and from the location. Recently, the UNSC forces on the planet has grown exponentially and has large outposts and a War College.

Suddenly, the peacefulness was interrupted by the warp in of a 3 Covenant SDV-Class Light Corvettes, 2 Covenant SDV-Class Heavy Corvettes, and one Covenant Carrier. A massive space battle took place in the orbits of the planet, but the UNSC ships didn't stand a chance. The Frigate Challenger was destroyed almost immediately in combat by multiple barrages of Heavy Plasma Cannons, while the Destroyer Hope is Near launched a volley of ODST troopers just before departing from the planet, heavily damaged. The Covenant SDV-Class Corvette Divine Intervention was among the first to send ground troops to secure key tactical locations on the planet, one being a large UNSC Firebase. All that remain on the planet are some of the UNSC trainees, and the ODSTs that were dropped from orbit. Also, a UNSC Halcyon Class Cruiser as well as 3 UNSC Frigates are en-route to the planet to assist.

UNSC Objectives:

Primary: Defend the UNSC Armory/HQ from the Covenant, if it falls than they will have an overlook of the nearby cities, dealing a crushing blow in their campaign against New Jericho. [In progress]

Secondary: Assist in the defense of the rest of the city. Covenant forces are also attacking from the North, South, and East entrances.

Mopyap was waddling on a dirt road with the rest of his file. In the distance, he could see a city that was obviously human made. The Sangheili Ultra who led Mopyap's Creche instructed Mopyap to take his file and assuault the West side of the city, as the Sangheili and his file assaulted the North side. Mopyap was especially fond of this plan for he would be able to independently order his troops, instead of them being commanded by a Sangheili. Mopyap was having difficulty keeping a reasonable speed due to the weight of the Fuel Rod Cannon in his hands, which in turn slowed down the entire Unggoy file for they followed him. As they got closer, they started hearing gunfire, which Mopyap was used to. They came upon some rubble and sandbags just a hundred or so feet away from the west side city entrance, where Mopyap could see hostiles.

He then quietly said to his lance, "Hide and shoot, don't get hurt."

Mopyap and his file began to scurry behind cover, attempting to remain hidden from the humans guarding the entrence. He then looked at the Unggoy Major, Yayap, and both turned around their cover at the same time, slightly revealing themselves and firing at the hostile position. Mopyap shot 3 times, two of the shots arced downward too fast and landed about halfway to the defended enemy position, but the third Fuel Rod seemed to be the most accurate and crashed with the sound of an explosion near the humans. Mopyap also noticed Yayap fire at least ten needles from his weapon, most of which curved to the human position. Mopyap knew that the needles would hit the humans, at least some of the needles at least, unless they notice and hid behind cover before the needles were able to reach them.

Guarding the Entrance

"Make sure to scan that rubble marines anything could hide amongst the rubble," Cho remarked as he scanned the rubble with his binoculars.

Cho was at the Entrance of the UNSC Firebase scanning the west side for Covenant activities. Cho sighs out of boredness and looks at his fireteam. Joey was polishing his M6 Magnum, Mute was manning the stationary gun, and Bear was scanning the rubble aswell. As cho was scanning the rubble he saw a momentary shine coming from the rubble.

"Bear! did you see that shine in the rubble?" Cho questioned.

"Yes sir I saw it aswell," Bear Answered.

"well just keep your eyes peel-GET DOWN ON THE GROUND NOW! Cho screamed as he saw large green objects and what appeared to be small purple needles.

Cho hit the deck and immmediatly see what his fireteam has done. Bear was quick and dropped in an instant. Mute barely dove away from the stationary gun as it took a direct hit from the green projectile, melting the stationary gun. Joey wasnt so lucky and as he dove to the ground two needles stuck into his leg and then broke apart.

"SHIT!" Joey screamed as he scrambled for a can of biofoam. Bear threw him a can and Joey proceeded to fill his wound with biofoam.

"Bear, Mute get grenades down range NOW, I'll provide covering fire with the Battle Rifle." Cho ordered.

Cho got up and started firing at the clearly now Grunts, while Bear and Mute started chucking grenades at the Grunts direction.

Mopyap smiled as he saw the human machine gun evaporate from the explosion of his weapon. He continued to fire his fuel rod, another 3 shot, then hid behind the rubble again, and began to reload his weapon. He saw his Lance start to all fire at the position, and had an idea.

"Katnip, flank left, Yayap, flank right! I shoot them so they must hide!", screamed Mopyap, just enough for his Lance to hear.

They obediently followed order and continued to fire at the humans as they moved. This strategy was risky, though, for they would be out of cover until they got closer to the human position. Just as he finished reloading, Mopyap saw a few human grenades fly towards himself and one of his files. Mopyap quickly launched his entire body to the right, effectively dodging the kill radius of the grenade, but leaving him in a daze. He lifted his head slightly to see that Katnip's File was in dismay from the grenade thrown at them. Sadly, Pewpop and Gagaw died from the explosion and flew a few feet in the air, then their lifeless bodies crashed into the ground. Mopyap then slowly got up.

Hold the Line

Cho got back into cover because the amount of fire coming towards Cho was increasing immensely. Cho noticed two figures near the rubble flew a few feet into the air. Cho slammed a new clip into his BR and looked over at Joey. He saw Joey momentarily right before the Fuel rod shot landed right on top of Joey.

"Shit! Joey is down!" Cho screamed.
The only thing left of Joey was a charred spot in the dirt where he previously was. Cho kept a cool head and held back the tears because as he peeked over his cover again Cho saw grunts advancing onto his position from multiple flanks. Cho set down his rifle and felt his belt untill he found what he was looking for, His 2 grenades. Cho ripped them off his belt and held one in each hand.

"Mute, Bear, Give me covering fire now!"

Both replied with a simple nod and popped out of cover and started unloading their weapons towards the Covenant, not necissarly being accurate but filling up the air with as much bullets as possible. Cho then proceeded to look and see where the most grunts were bunched together and threw both grenades at them.

Onslaught of the Covenant

Mopyap finished reloading his large weapon and peered out of cover to see a human quickly throw two grenades, one at each of his files. One of the grenades veered off, landing about  12 feet away from Katnip, while the other grenade landed relatively close to Yayap and his file. Mopyap almost screamed in terror, for the explosion of the grenade would take out that entire file!


All the while, Yayap noticed the grenade and screamed in his alien tongue to his file, "Everyone jump awaaaaaay!!!"

All of the Unggoy did so, but Yayap payed the ultimate price. He jumped directly on the grenade, shielding the explosion with his body. The explosion burst him into tiny bits that rained from the sky. Mopyap let out a solemn tear from his right eye and jumped out of cover to begin running to Yayap's former file. As he moved, he attempted to go behind cover when he could, though he did not stop moving. As he arrived, he unloaded his entire clip at the human that threw the two grenades.

"Unggoy, hide and shoot! Slowely advance!", screamed Mopyap as he just finished firing his fuel rod.

Fall Back!

Cho saw, before diving back into cover, a grunt dove onto one of his grenade and was blown apart.

"Shit, that was one crazy bastard," Cho said.

Cho's victory over that grunt was short-lived as more fire was concentrated on him. Cho hid behind cover and mulled over his choices. Either continue fighting or fall back to a more secure position. Cho crawled a few meters to a different spot of cover and peeked his head out to see what he was up against. Cho was unsure what he saw but every so often grunts would move to differnt cover, slowly advancing to his position. Cho popped back into cover and he decided on what he was going to do.

"Bear, Mute, fall back into the Firebase we will find better cover inside. Move out!" Cho ordered.

Bear and Mute didn't even need to response they started moving towards the Firebase seconds after Cho gave the order. Cho followed right behind Bear and Mute.

Sangheili Major Zelia Shangzullee

West Side of Firebase

Break through their lines!

Zelia Shangzullee was sitting in the most central seat that the Type-52 Troop Carrier possessed. He surveyed the insides of the transport to see his lance within, all gearing up for combat. To his left, he saw one of his files, 2 Unggoy Minors, 1 Unggoy Major, and on Sangheili Minor. He knew that even though they were all very new to combat, they would be useful in the destruction of the humans. To his right was a Kig-Yar file, 3 Minors led by a Major. This file was relatively new to his lance and they had only worked a few missions to together. They were reletively good warriors who obeyed their orders and could carry out tasks with efficiency. Zelia Shangzulle knew that they would be the spearhead of the battles soon to come.

The hum of the engines for the Troop Carrier grew slightly lower and the pilot signaled that their destination was reached. Zelia exited the transport first, the gravity lift slowed his descent as he inched towards the ground. As he descended he was able to get a descent view of not only a small fire-fight but also his objective. Just as he landed, he looked up and saw the rest of his lance follow the same path he used to journey downwards.

"Kig-Yar!", stated Zelia to his lance, "maintain a defensive position in front of the rest of us. Aiadi, attempt to keep the Unggoy and yourself alive, the extra firepower will assist us tremendously."

Zelia and his lance began to walk to the firebase where explosions from grenades could be heard. As they moved, the Type-52 Troop Carrier flew overhead and away to another location. As they arrived, a few heretics could be seen hiding behind cover near the entrance to the base.

Over his intercom Zelia said, "Jax, you now have control of your file, lead them to victory! Aiadi, move with me behind this cover."

His lance then began to open fire on the human position...

Onslaught of the Covenant

Mopyap saw the humans begin to run, and he took advantage of this opportunity where they would be without cover.

"Shoot them! Chase them!", Mopyap said to his lance, or what was left of it.

They all began to run to the fortified human position and jump over it. Mopyap stopped for a second and fired 3 shots from his Fuel Rod Cannon at the retreating humans. During this time, Katnip fired her needler at the location as well. Mopyap noticed to his left and right a Covenant Lance advancing with them.

Defensive positions & Evasive Maneuvers

Jax was moving as fast as he could after the humans while still attempting to keep his shield gauntlet in front of him, which proved to be difficult. He fired his weapons at the humans, so did the rest of his file. Over his head he saw Needles and Green Plasma blobs alike fly towards the humans. He saw that by now all they were doing was trying to not get hit, so he moved his Shield Gauntlet out of his way to begin to run faster, ready to activate it again at a moment's notice.
